Quad Capture USB tweaks

Ok so I've got a shiny new Quad Capture hooked up, Using the drivers that came on the disc (1.0.1), looks like there is a new set of drivers (1.5.0) so i will try those as well. This is replacing a long in the tooth MOTU 2048 mk 2 PCI interface. My question is are there any USB tweaks I can do? I am noticing an occasional dropout of sound (like muted for milliseconds, then normal again) when just listening to music - that does not happen on the MOTU. wondering there is some sort of polling or something going on, but there is no timing pattern that I can detect, it can go many minutes without a hitch then have a few of them or just one, etc. I did a search but did not find anything directly related to tweaking for a USB interface. Thanks for any help. Computer is a newegg diy kit - i7 2600, ASUS P8P67LE, 600W Earthwatt, Win XP SP 3

I can confirm this behavior. I downloaded the drivers, never used the supplied media. Another issue was buzzing with the inputs set to guitar, confirmed by other users. I sent mine back.

thanks for responding... After loading the new drivers I had the same behavior, so I started playing with settings. All seems stable at 128 sample buffer sizes. I was hoping for lower in XP but apparently a Win7 upgrade is in my future. Sorry for the issues you had with it.

I would have thought a MOTU 2408 PCI,would be FAR superior to a budget USB interface?

Im almost done with USB after a TASCAM US 600 that never worked and now a UA25-EX with 28ms latency on my laptop, but a usable 12.6 ms  on my desktop.

People have had some great results with the Roland capture series, but yeah, the old MOTU 2408 units are still really really good.

I set mine at 64 sample buffer size @48,000hz after installing and haven't had to touch it since, although I may drop it down to 256 samples at mix down time to give the CPU a better run at things.

I looked into the guitar buzzing issue with Roland UK support, and although I don't suffer with it on my cheapo Stratalike unless I'm well into clipping territory, some have stated they've had issues with certain guitars plugged into it.  I find Hi-Z is a crap shoot anyway some combinations of gear work out nice and clean and some set-ups make for a perfectly working AM radio.

I've been more than happy with mine, clean, reliable and steady as a rock.

I'm using the 1.5 driver now just to stay current but I haven't noticed any difference from the 1.0.1 driver that I installed from the CD at purchase time.

My round trip latency is fine for tracking through the DAW even, measured at a true 7.2ms at the above settings.

There ain't no USB tweaks that I know of but I haven't needed any, just make sure you're going into a true USB 2.0 socket rather than a USB 3.0 one in compatibility mode.  Some people try plugging USB 2.0 devices into USB 3.0 ports thinking they are going to get some magic boost by doing so but the reality is that it's a recipe for guaranteed headaches.
