Lyrics Issue Home Studio 2004

I have been pulling my hair out. I spend two hours typing in lyrics in in the Staff View. They look beautiful between the two staves. When I save the file and go back later the lyrics are no longer between the two staves, but on a staff of their own, which takes up more space and wastes printing paper. How can I get the lyrics to come up so they are between the two staves like they were when I originally started?
Thanks,

I used to use HS 2004 with lyrics in Staff View and never had this problem so I think it would help if you could explain exactly how you added the lyrics. When I do it in Staff view, I have a number of notes on a stave. I click the 'lyrics' button and position the mouse pointer under the first note where I want the lyrics to start. When it is in the right position under the first note for lyric entry, the mouse pointer changes from a circle with a line through it to a pencil. I click the left mouse button and a box appears under the note, ready for lyric entry. I then type the first word of the lyrics and then press the space bar to move to the next note where the box appears again for that note's lyric etc. So, the lyrics are attached to notes on a stave and will (or at least should!) always appear in that form when you save and reopen that file. Is this what you did?
