Re:X1-D upgrade completely botched. Over 100 error messages durng install 2012/03/10 13:45:32 (permalink)
The fact that he actually counted the number of error messages is what amazes me - I would have ATL+CTRL+DEL to get to task manager after about 5 to stop the process.  But to truly count all 100 (was it really exactly 100 or was this a large number to make a point) shows persistence.

OK, here are just a few of the error messages. And, OK, I didn't count, but it was a lot and I didn't go to TM because I was curious. An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile Failed: Code 32 The program can't start because MSVCR90.dll is missing from your computer, The program can't start because aswCmnIS.dll is missing from your computer, The program can't start because aswCmnIS64.dll is missing from your computer, There are to many others to keep typing then. And to all you nice people who simply accuse me of doing something stupid, you might notice I'm not the only one complaining of this. PERHAPS at least part of the problem lies with our friends at Roland/Cakewalk. The one's who keep finding ways to get more and more money from us annually.

Windows 7 64-bit, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six Core Processor, ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, 8gb memory, Focusrite Forte running through USB2 cable into PC, and slow stubby fingers.

Jeez man!

Did you try any of the ideas some of us put forth?

Are you in an admin account (do you have the level of permissions,) did you check the hard drive for errors, did you try re-downloading and reinstalling?

Or are you just here to complain and not try to get to the bottom of the problem?

EDIT:

With all the missing file mesages, have you even tried uninstalling X1 completely and re-installing, and then applying the updates?

Seems to me as though there is a problem with your registry, it may be fragmented and as such accumulated errors.
The missing files could also be corrupted by virus/malware thats pretending to be the actual DLL(s) in question

Another thing you can try is running  sfs /scannow with the command prompt and that will check all the important window files and replace them if it finds any issues.

Could also be memory or imminent hardware failure or at its simplest, a corrupted download.

Im not so sure that these problems are related to cakewalk, at least not in their entirety and as such i think its worth investigating system stability outside of sonar.

My 2 cents.

Good luck, i hope you solve the problem

Heh heh... I am *Not* laughing at your problem..
It is funny because the error messages told you what the problem was.

The files are related to your Anti-Virus software.  More specifically Avast.

Over 100 error messages during install and now Sonar doesn't work at all. Thanks Cakewalk!!!

Before accusing Cakewalk, just post your problem first and see if you can get help.  When the problem is finally solved, you may need to retract some of the negative comments.  If the problem cannot be solved and it turns out to be a bug, we will all benefit from the discovery in one way or another.

Seems like many like to blame someone else first.  It is not always that simple.  :)

Thelonius,

FWIW: I haven't seen any problems like this at all - neither in the field, nor internally. So it's obviously system specific, or at least relatively so. To fling assumptions and accusations that it's just a botched software release and that this is the general user experience isn't fair.

The good news is that we have free support that can likely help you and I'm sure they are more than happy to do just that.

These dll's you reference seem to be related to AVAST anti-virus. You might also take important note of the fact that aswCmnIS.dll error messages are regularly associated with Trojan viruses. You can Google it and see. If it were me, I'd be running anti-malware scans and checking out my AVAST installation.

Please don't conflate your X1D incident with Cakewalk "trying to get money from you" and "botched releases". It's presumptive, doesn't get anyone any closer to helping you, and it's counter-productive to the entire purpose of this forum.

Good luck, utilize the free support, and please let us know what the problem ends up being.

BTW: I'm changing your thread title to something that will better reflect the problem.

FWIW I had an issue where the installation would stop and give me this error: "cannot create file. File already exists." Along with the options Abort, Retry, Ignore. If you ignore or abort, Sonar will not load. I figure this is a built in feature of W7 Pro in that there may be a certain amount of time that is required before you can rewrite a file. Of course I may be way off here. The simple solution, albeit a stupid one, was to simply click retry until it worked.  This occurred with each patch for me. I don't know why. In the end everything installed just fine and Sonar works without any issues.
