PC feature? Was this a trade-off or am I not remembering correctly?
When I adjust any of the values in the new QuadEQ, the numbers change in the new value box (thanks a million for that one!)... Did we use to get a popup that displayed the changes? (GlossEQ) Tho I really prefer the direct numeric access most of the time, the numbers are so tiny and color/resolution so difficult for me that I can't really read the value even with my reading glasses until I'm inches from the screen.... and even then it's difficult... The popup was much easier to read (larger and black/white contrast)... Anyone else think it would be nice to have both happening? I wonder if they can? I might FR this one too... It's too nice an EQ to avoid because of my eyes! ;-) Keni

I think the numbers are way too small too. And the colouring of the number boxes is not helpful for clarity either. To me, the problem is that they've obviously struggled a bit to fit all the stuff into the same space as the old EQ. But there's no real reason why it should be the same size. I hope this gets an update at some point. I also don't like the new orientation of the slope knobs. Makes no sense at all to me. Minor-ish gripes, though, these. I think the new graph is great, and the narrow cut in the new hybrid mode is extremely useful.

I agree... Another thing that would help me without changing the space is if the background for the numbers was dark (black) so it would increase the contrast... I like that they're maintaining the color/frequency relationship, but it needs a touch more... ...and the reversal of the slope caught me off guard. At first I thought it was bugged and changed my settings until I say the shape relationship in the graph display. We'll see... Panu hasn't done a mod for the QuadEQ ...yet. ;-) Keni

On the whole, I think it's great, but I think the graphical design is a bit over-cooked. Looks very nice, but isn't as practical as it could be. The slope knob thing is 100% aesthetics over function.

Keni We'll see... Panu hasn't done a mod for the QuadEQ ...yet. ;-) I have! But not in Black Label yet. In Dark Side there is already quick&dirty QuadEQ. Better one comes later but I need to think if for a while... All texts except EQ names are now too small unless you have big display. I have perfect vision but I can't read vertical texts (23" FullHD, eyes 65 cm from the screen). I wonder if older people have a clue what those texts are!

I'm not too miffed about the slope reversal... I can get used to the change now that I know it's there... I even think the color scheme is pretty good (tho I can't wait to have a black background mod soon)... I do believe that changing the background color of the number filelds will make that much more readable as well. I think here you're right that being to "clever" in the color use needs a little more planning... Hopefully they will have more user color control by the next full release (X2?).. But yes... I do like working with this eq... The hybrid is a great feature tho simply using the Q for each control in any of the modes can produce a result "almost" the same.... ;-) But I like the color of the eq (that I perceive) and I find it easy to get my corrections with small tweaks as well as surgical needs that may extend more... So I'm good to go with it but look forward to it getting better! Keni

The thing that hybrid mode adds that you couldn't do before is the *extremely* narrow Q for cuts. Its excellent for really precise remedial work on imperfect source material.

Keni . . . you have echoed one of my first thoughts as I booted up the Quad EQ first time to have a look - - - > the text for the display of the frequencies is too small, and it uses colors that make it even harder to see. While it is a great new feature to have, the optics could have had some more thought. Perhaps the bakers have younger sharper eyes ?

Not sure of you monitor size but I upgraded to a 24" and WOW! what a relief for these failing old eyes.

Panu's wonderful mod for the QuadEQ is beautiful to my eyes... and I can read the text even with my poor eyesight... It's small, but reasonable.... The mod looks gorgious on my desktop! (Thanks again Panu!) Keni

Keni: Strange you brought this up. I just completed the survey Cakewalk sent me and I specifically asked for a pop-up in the graph that would be larger so that we could see what we were doing. I like the new Quad EQ, but it would be a nice improvement to the prochannel to be able to have a popup for the displays.

The popups over the controls are just the Windows tooltip. The settings for that can be changed globally for Windows. On XP it is desktop right click properties->appearance->advanced and scroll to tooltips, where you can change colors, font, and size.

I mentioned lots of this stuff... But not to fear. check out Panu's latest QuadEQ mod... He's got two versions one with the associated color and the other using white (for the numericals values)... He increased the size of the fonts and redbuilt the background with much higher contrast (as well as removing some useless shading)... I'm very pleased with it now... Both the eq itself and it's appearance! <whew>... Keni

I see that it does allow far more narrow bandwidth.... That could be handy... if used very carefully.... ;-) Keni
