Trouble with Inserting Effects

Sorry to be back to these forums so soon after my last post, but I've ran into a fairly significant problem: when I insert an effect on an audio track I've recorded, it essentially makes all MIDI tracks silent (I can play on them with my keyboard controller, but I can't hear the recording when playing it back). Furthermore, I can't use effects on the MIDI tracks themselves. Is this a limitation of the software, a bug, or (probably the case) am I missing something obvious?

First day with the new software, help is much appreciated.

For the most part you can't add an effect directly to a midi track, as the fx need to be applied to an audio track. You either need to freeze your VST or bounce the audio first, then add fx.

Strange, certainly not a software limitation or by design. Try raising your MIDI prepare buffers to something like 500 ms. Preferences-->MIDI-->Playback & Recording

That's strange. Is it one particular audio FX that mutes the MIDI, or any? Could it be an FX which includes MIDI routing, like sidechain or an arpeggiator, and thus somehow get involved with your MIDI-settings?  And you simply drop the FX in the FX bin of an AUDIO-track?
As mentioned: MIDI does not contain sound, so you can't use audio FX for MIDI. It's like connecting a page of sheet music to a distortion pedal.
