selecting SI presets via midi?

Does anyone know if one can select the various presets, or sounds in the Studio Instruments VST's that come with Sonar?

All my experience has been with using external hardware synths, and using ins files to select the various patches via the bank patch midi system...

I am now starting to want to use VST's in backing track programming, but I wanted to know if this can be done using SI's?

Example : If I load up SI Bass in Sonar, but then want to load, say the fourth sound in the Program Browser (which is Below Sub) can I do this via a midi command in the track midi header, instead of the manual "point and click"?

I know I could just save it all as a project, and each track would save and recall what parameters are set for each VST, BUT, as far as I know there is no way to externally load up a Cakewalk Project file, via midi command, from an external synth, or device.....

Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions or otherwise on this?

Thanks

it should save the setting of the synth when your saving out the song..

SI uses cakewalks browser, and isn't the standard type browsing that z3ta uses.

how about making a track template instead?

yeah I could do that, but I am really trying to get Sonar to change the SI patch with a midi command of some sort from an external midi sequencer track...I am using the other sequencer to play the midi data, but route that to Sonar so I can actually use the vst's as the sound source...

It is not going to really work if I have to manually go back to Sonar, and reload a new patch, or reload a new template or project for that matter....

If only Sonar had some way over midi to remotely select a project, it would work then all I would need to do is create projects to match the files being used on the other app...get it to send the load project command to Sonar...an d I would not need to touch Sonar at all during a performance...
