Ideas on a keyboard?
So I am in desperate need of a new keyboard. I have an old Yamaha YPG 320 (or what ever). It is like 7 years old and a very "beginner" keyboard. Recently I have been doing a lot more with sonar and also with playing piano. I really need something that has weighted keys to feel like a piano, a usb or midi in/out, a quarter inch out, enough good quality sounds like pads, strings, ect... for playing live, and it needs to be light weight. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

gat19g I really need something that has weighted keys to feel like a piano... The design of the weighting mechanism in these keyboards varies considerably from model to model and consequently each instrument has a different "feel". You need to try out a few to discover which one suits you best. I use a StudioLogic VMK-149, but I wouldn't recommend it. At the time I only had a very small amount of space and this was the only 4-octave weighted keyboard available. I hate it because the buttons for changing settings are awkward to use and non-intuitive.

I have the PX-3 stage piano and it's the 2nd Casio Privia I've owned. I regretted selling the first one and bought the 2nd one. the PX-3 has no onboard speakers (typical for stage/studio models), but the feel of the keys and the price and overall weight of the unit is what sold me. street price about $800.

Hmm... I have looked at the Privia and it stood out to me as the best thing in the price bracket I have.

yep. and I like the action on it myself. the sounds aren't bad, especially if you layer, but there are other pianos with better sounds, IMO. but not for the price.

I found my dream keyboard. It's the Nord Stage 2 Piano. Unfortunately it is $4,200 I might just have to stick with Casio for now...

Whats your opinion on studio monitors? I need to get some of those too. I've been deciding between the Studiophile AV 40s and the Roket RP6s.

Have a Casio CDP-100 and a Yamaha p-70. Both in the 3-$500 range and good feel, weighted keys. Worthless speakers and average keyboard sounds. I only use them as midi output devices. Also... cheaply put together...you don't want to drop them or bump into them harshly. John

The M-Audio Keystation 88 ES is not too bad either when used with quality soft synths. At under $200 it is a viable choice.
