Adding MIDI to Audio Track Plugins in Sonar X1 Studio
I have an interesting issue relating to Amplitube 3 plugin for Sonar X1. I have been having problems with this particular plugin accepting cc codes, so that when I record guitar playing while using effects pedals that come with the program using KORG nanoPAD2. There is no issues with the nanoPAD2 with the standalone version of Amplitude 3. Just sonar wont allow me to issue cc codes to the plugin. I did read the manual for Amplitube 3, and they say I need to see if Sonar allows cc codes to be issued to audio track plugins. So mu question is can I issue cc (continous control) codes to an audio track plugin. I have set the nanoPAD2 setting to ACT MIDI CONTROLLER, this will allow me to play notes, with other soft synth plugins like Dimension LE and Rapture, the one plugin I want to use alot it wont allow me to send cc codes to the stomp effects so that I can use the PAD2 to turn on and off each effects pedal. Any suggestion or advise and help would be much appreciated.

Amplitube 3 plugin is an audio plugin for guitar effects, through ASIO audio interface. I want to use amplitube 3, for my guitar effects pedals within Sonar X1 Studio. I have not configure it as synth. Can you set up and audio track as a synth. Amplitube 3 will only work within an audio track. I have been reading the reference guide, but I havent found anything to help me with this. I have also put in a ticket with Cakewalk, but I they havent answered yet. So I hope this issue is not one for the too hard basket.

for a vst effect to receive midi cc data it must be "configured as a synth" in the plugin properties, accessible via the plugin manager... good luck!

Trevor, Pwal is right. One big reason Sonar has that option for audio plugins.

Thankyou to pwal and John for there assistance, this is what I have do. Background Info. Guitar is linked to computer through lexicon Alpha audio Interface. I have now, made Amplitube 3 and synth instrument. I want to use Amplitube 3 so that when I do live recording I can use the effects pedals using my KORG nanoPAD2. Since making Amplitube 3 a synth instrument, and inserting it as a synth track I can assign Continuous Control codes.(cc). I have assigned a midi output to Amplitube 3 as stated by email from Cakewalk Support, But what I need to know, is how do I get access to the Amplitube 3 on midi track when using an Audio Interface. I have tried to access Amplitube 3 via the audio track, but unfortunately I cannot assign continuous control codes, like I can in the synth track. I have tried to make instrument track, with no success in achieving my goal. Is there anyone who can assist me. I have watched the videos on the cakewalk site, and still no the wiser how to do it. I am still reading the large reference manual as I am writing this post. Any further assistance would be appreciated.

If you want to do this in real time you will need a MIDI controller. If automation is the way you want to go insert a MIDI that is outputting to Ampiltube. The automate-able controls should up. Than just draw envelopes. Using CCs should make this very easy as long as you know what they are mapped to.

I am totally confused, I was under the impression I could use my audio interface to record my guitar using my midi controller, they are simple controllers that dont allow external inputs. I have a basic Casio CT496 that has midi in and out, which I can easily connect to sonar X1. The reference guide say that I can use amplitube 3 (softsynth) in the audio tracks effects, but I also want to control the pedals using my midi controller nanoPAD2 just to turn the effect pedals on and off. In the stand alone version of Amplitube 3, I can do both, just seems I cant do both in Sonar X1. I guess I have waisted money on Sonar X1. I will have to try cubase, and see if I have more success.

i don't have amp3 but what you're suggesting should be do-able?... i had a quick mess with amplion pro (a similar plug w/stompboxes) and you can do it by (in the console view on the audio track with the a3) selecting "options --> fx --> show assignable controls" (though i only get the first 4 showing) - i reassigned one of the 4 visible (right-click --> reassign control) to a stompbox bypass button, and used "right-click -->remote control --> learn" to assign a button on my nanokontrol... ... seems like rather a lot of hoops to jump through, maybe someone knows a better way? also, is it possible to have more than 4 controls visible?

I wish to thank everyone who has offer assistance to my problem but I finally sort the problem out now. Because I wanted the output to go through my computer speakers, I set the Audio driver to MME. However my audio interface needed the driver to be set to ASIO, the only problem I had with that is the output goes through my audio interface which mean I had to connect my audio interface to the aux/ipod input of my speakers so that I could hear what I was doing. Now everything seems to be working well even connected the Casio CTK496 to the computer and enjoyed playing around with Rapture and Dimension LE in Sonar.
