V100, 700 and/or Octa Interfaces!

I'm debating on getting a new sound interface as I currently eshew my RME FF 400 (... which has been a fiery trial upon my sensitive computers and 'no firewire ports'.)

Is it normal for you guys to have all 2 or 3 of these on your USB stack?

I need something that does everything and is light for the lappy ... but able to allow multi rack inputs and outs.  I must shout:

ANY AND ALL THOUGHTS ARE WELCOME!

Thanks in advance

Philip

I like the Octa! Only 2 of those at a time on usb stack.

They are all very different. The 700 is almost 5X the money and is not really portable for your laptop. The 100 has a number of nice features, but is limited in a few ways, the most obvious being only 2 pre's. The Octo looks pretty nice to me, but I'd miss the fader automation of the 100. If you need all those pre's, then the Octo seems logical for the money. If not, and especially if you have a couple/few external pre's already, the 100 and a laptop is a nice combo.

Got the octa and the Berhinger BCF2000 for the faders. Still quite portable together

Thanks Severstraten, M@ B, and Laney,

I'd suppose the Octa and/or the v100 may be logical based on your validations.  The v100 has a few ins and outs ... but has no auto input detection (not the end of the world) ... the octa is probably better for a studio replacement sound interface)

(Sev, I've got the BCF2000 ... while excellent for what it does, I recall it being tricky with VSTs and a bit bulky on the desk ... so I quit using it.  I guess that should unvalidate my interest in v700 faders more)

@Philip: In case this has not been mentioned, the VS-100 and Octa (or Quad) share the same drivers so you can stack them if you want.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Thanks Codamedia ... I think these will be my next 2 ... that attribute sounds excellent for complex recording.  Of course I'll keep my Pre-s (Avalon and Axe Processor) for inhouse.
