Steamship Noir: the Captain with a Past

A new track i have made in Sonar X1 that hopefully will become a series of tracks, telling somewhat a story about the ship and the characters that are on board.

This one is more of a collection of memories that the captain has, having themes for other characters and events from his past.

A lot of different libs used in this one, but mainly Hollywood Strings, Symphonic Orchestra Silver and Ministry of Rock.

I like what you did musically, but you lost me with the whole ship thing - don't get that at all. I guess I was expecting some kind of lyrical content.

Terrific – love the choice of instruments and the space between their ranges (if that makes any sense to you) – there is a hole in the middle (to me) between the heavy bass and the other top end instruments that gives this a brooding kind of vibe. The footsteps area nice touch and they add to the story-teller quality. The horns (almost fog horns) placed me on the ship and the strings give an ocean rising/falling sensation at times. Quirky, dark and tasty. Very nicely done.

The ship is just a setting i created in my mind for the track, and the other tracks that i'm going to make. It doesn't mean much in terms of storytelling in the ways of vocals but i want to try and invoke the mood and atmosphere of the ship and the characters on board. And in doing so tell a story with the music. It probably doesn't do so well without some images tho, but that just might happen later on :) 

@jsaras: Thank you, and i believe you are right. I will most likely keep the same instruments and sound for most of the tracks, but i think you are right when it comes to the reverb and will remove it or tone it down quite a bit on the bass in future tracks where its used :)

I always wanted the footsteps to be the captain dancing alone, telling us of his lost love or a long gone friend. Also the the brass in the start is indeed tied to the ship and someone dark from his past. A rival ship/captain? Evil previous owner of the ship? Himself when he was younger? ^^ Might become a bit cheezy hehe :)

The Xzylophone sound is from the Factory library that comes with Kontakt 4 (and probably older and newer versions) in the Orchestral -> VSL percussion folder.
Will post more of the tracks in this thread when they are finished with a bit of text to go with them, and if i have the time perhaps a few images :)
