SSD Helpful?

i see a 60gb ssd on sale.  i was wondering if it would help my computer in reducing any drop-outs.

also, would it be better to use the SSD to put my library samples in, or would it be better to put my operating system and my sonar X1 on it?

thanks.

There's an ongoing discussion about SSDs you may find helpful here:

I think it depends on what is the source of the dropouts. If you are running too many tracks or trying to stream too many sample libraries, then it could help. But if the computer is not setup properly or the ASIO sample buffers are too low, this can also cause drop-outs, and a SSD wouldn't help at all.

my SSD is about 15 gb too small.  i was wondering which set-up would be better:

    1)  my 7200rpm HDD holding my OS and sequencer, SSD1 holds samples, SSD2 holds more samples,

    or

    2) SSD1 holds samples, SSD2 holds the remaining samples and the OS and sequencer?

just wondering if it is slower having some samples on the same drive as the OS when it comes to SSD's.

    thanks.

I've put some sample libraries on my SSD drive with my OS, and it didn't noticeably slow things down. Overall, it will be a faster OS experience with the OS on an SSD. My current setup has the OS on an SSD, and my sample and audio drives are 7200rpm drives.

I have one on my work computer, I like it but I've gotten the BSOD a few times since switching over. I restarted in safe mode once and it went back to working normally again. I'm still unsure if I would buy an SSD in my next build.

SSD manufacturers vary.  You get what you pay for here.

I would never run Sonar 3rd party libraries without SSD and 64-bit processing.

EWQL complex samples would take 3-7 minutes to load without SSD and 64-bit Sonar.  Now they load in seconds (15-30 seconds max).

I replaced my HP Envy lappy with SSDs and that has been a portable godsend.
