Brhringer headphone amp

I picked up one of these today.

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/AMP800.aspx

I unpacked it and set it on the desk...... maybe I can try it tomorrow.

Figured it would make tracking a singer easier..... with 2 different sets of headphones.... I have been struggling with a y cord out of a stereo system headphone jack and if they are not balanced properly...... arghhhhhhhhh!

oh yeah.... almost forgot..... $53 delivered.

I've been using a Behringer HA8000 for about 3 years now and it has been great until just the last few weeks.  now it's crackly and staticy on the left channel and sometimes the left channel goes out (on all front outputs).  I'm probably going to have to replace it.

I've got a Behringer HA4700.  I don't use it much as it is a little noisy compared to the Rolls RA62 headphone amp I have.

I bought the Behringer about 3 years ago when I was in Kansas City at the Musician's Friend warehouse outlet.  It was new and at "warehouse clearance" price.  Sadly M/F closed their outlet a couple of months later.  I also bought a new/damaged Epiphone Les Paul at the same time.  There was a small chip out of the top, which I've fixed and unless I tell someone they wouldn't know it.  That was a steal; it was $599 in their catalog, it as marked down to $360 in the warehouse outlet.  I had looked at it on a Wednesday and went back on Friday as that is when they set out the "good junk" for sale and all new/damaged guitars and cases were marked down an additional 40%.  I got the guitar and a  "new/damaged" Epiphone case for $260 (plus tax).

    Can't beat Wholesale pricing. :)

In the seemingly over priced world of good quality gear, they say you get what you pay for. While some gear is way overpriced there is also gear that seems like a bargan. There only marketing involved in the designing of bargan gear. Try and make it look and have the same features as the expensive stuff and people will by it.

So I like Rimshots comment best=For the money it works.

You can't expect them to last forever as for sure they will have low qualiy components. Generally "electronics" don't wear out but if there is a moving part involved, it will be the first thing to go.

I got it hooked up.... with some old junk cables I found in the bottom of my junk cord box.

    So far it sounds good....

Who would have thought I would be using all 8 outputs on the Saffire....

Beagle.... get some contact cleaner... the kind in the spray can. Squirt it in the jacks..... and in the pots as well.... from the inside if possible.  If the scratchy sound comes and goes it's very likely dirty conncetions and pots..... the cleaner will bring it back to working..... if not, you have lost nothing. Just be careful with the spray since it can damage plastic..... it can ruin the finish on things..... so be careful where it drips.

I spray my Boogie pots every once in a while and it makes them nice and quiet as well as smooth and easy to turn..........

I'm sure it's not contact problems on the jacks.  all front output jacks make the same sounds at the same time and cut out at the same time(s).  usually after it's been on for an hour or so.  it has to be a problem on the output stage of the front jacks.  I haven't checked the rear jacks to see if they have the same problem (kind of hard to get to at the moment.

That sounds like a pot problem.   A dirty pot would cause the problem you describe.  Does both input A and B do the same thing?

I also use a Beringher HA8000. I see some people diss Beringher gear but my personal experience with any of their gear has been no different to any other hardware that I've got.

In my studio, in addition to the headphone amp I have a BCF2000 controller, Truth B2031A monitors, Ultra DI100, & a PX3000 patchbay. In my live rig I also have a CX2310 Crossover and a MDX4400 Compressor/limiter

All of it works as advertised and so far has never let me down.

The Behringer sound gear.... amplified speakers seem to be popular in many churches... I have no problem with any gear based on brand name....

the main thing with gear for me is that it sounds decent and works reliably. end of story.

But, they won't sell you parts.  I bought a Behringer acoustic amp for my wife, from the Musicians Friend Warehouse Outlet. I got it cheap because of the damaged condition.   As it turned out the problem was a bad pot (it was always at max for the function) - a custom part.  I contacted Behringer and if it was in warranty I could have sent the entire amp to Behringer and they would have fixed it (or replaced it) under warranty.  But, they would not sell me a part.

Being an ex amp tech I could repair it myself with some other pot, but the matching Behringer knob would not fit.  I did "fix" it by soldering in a jumper so the pot was always at "zero" and disabled the function (reverb) which wasn't needed for our acoustic guitar application anyway.

I also have a BCF 2000 and a Behringer clone cable tester.

I have several store bought headphone distro systems but my sentimental favorite remains this DIY one I made years ago:

I know this is a little of a sidetrack, but I have moved the input from the mixer to channel 2 and moved one headphone to a rear output.  we'll see if that makes any difference.
