Vst FX any suggestions for delay and chorus?

I see a ton for eq and compression and even reverb but I rarely see anything worth while for chorus and delay. Maybe I am not looking hard enough I have honestly until recently over looked how important having good mixing plugs are in the first place but now I am looking to correct that for my own music. Any suggestions are welcome. Right now I mainly use the stuff that comes with X1 studio for these things. I have more than enough EQ, compressors and reverbs.

Not sure what type of delay you are looking or, but one of my favorites is the GSi Tape Echo GS-201.  I love it on everything from organs to guitars.  It's reasonable as well at about $25 dollars US.  Mind you it's not a tempo syncable plugin.  It's a bit more vintage like in nature.

For chorus you might want to look at D16 Syntorus Double Path Analog Chorus.  While I don't own it, I demo'd it and loved it - it's on my list of future purchases.  It's also reasonable at $50 dollars US.

You can check it out at: http://www.d16.pl/syntorus

If you have the funds get Guitar Rig 5, great tape delay and various other delays, just because it says Guitar Rig does not mean it cant be used for vox or anything for that matter.

Plus it comes with a plethora of different other effects and amp sims.

    180$ download price.

The Tape Delay is worth the price.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I always forget about Guitar Rig. Komplete is on my to do list. I will keep guitar rig in mind for mixing stuff. I do have the free version and there are some things in there I like and others I do not.

Then trust me try GR5, the combo of effects gives you an edge when it comes to having a different sound, hope that makes sense.

For instance they have a grain delay, here is the blurb:

The Grain Delay is much more than just another delay effect. With its innovative granular approach it allows for a spacious refinement of your tones as well as massive walls of echoing sound – its interdependent controls are an invitation to experiment in order to achieve really individual effects. The signal is sliced into samples of arbitrary length which are delayed, transformed and repeated in manifold ways, including a powerful stereo feature. With the Grain Delay, it gets just as weird as you like, at the same time the effect is perfectly controllable on all levels.

Also have a look at their effect page: http://www.native-instruments.com/#/products/producer/guitar-rig-5-pro/?page=2505

    200 bucks for all this

I hear great things about Soundtoys Echoboy. It's pricier, but if they have a demo it may be worth checking out. Unfortunately they don't have 64 bit support though, in case that's a deal breaker (it is for me).

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I am still checking out a lot of them. I asked over several forums and got a ton of suggestions. I did decide to give the sonitus delay a chance and I really liked it. Also decided to start playing more with guitar rig 5 and amplitube 3 and grabbed T Racks Deluxe and the 2 compressors they are offering with this group buy. If you do not have it yet you need it. This things are crazy.

Just remember and this is not suppose to be patronising choose a handful of effects, this is your sound and if you start having every freeware, delay, compressor just because I might use it, it ****s with your head.

This is also not to say not get new stuff but remember it's all about keeping symmetry, I learnt this the hard way and still am.

It's good when you are starting out but after that simplify it.

Thanks Ben. I agree with you completely. I am not new to making music at all. I have been making my own songs since 2001 but spent most of that time using hard synths/samplers/drum machines Acid or Reason. This is my first time really paying attention to plug ins. And now looking to see what the vst world offers is incredible. Some great HQ stuff and I am loving it so far. But you are exactly right grabbing everything just to have it is a distraction I learned that from dealing with other tools and plan to apply the same things to soft synths and fx.

DELAYS: I found what I needed in the free VST offer out there, some are far from stable, but do what I want (some really dirty delays with grain and character) If I need it clean I'll go for SONITUS or better WAVES 6 Tap Tempo mod Delays (LOVE IT!) As for free, dirty ones, try: Voxengo Tempo Delay http://www.voxengo.com/product/tempodelay/ Shuttle Echo (nasty one, love it on guitars) http://www.shuttlebugreco...Pages/shuttleplugs.htm And TapeDelay http://www.freesoundedito...oads/vst/tapedelay.zip When looking for free vst for a project where I needed different delays with saturation control and tempo, I checked out everything on this page http://www.freesoundeditor.com/VSTDelay-Reverb.htm and ended up using many, like Analog Delay, Karma, and the Revox emulator there, very funny and decent sounding.

With delays and choruses, you have to be careful not to over do them.

I use the ones in Cake primarily.

On a vocal a short delay works well with or in place of reverb.

With guitars, delay is cool but too much of it or chorus will give the guitar a dated sound.

I might also add that this T Racks bundle IK multimedia is doing until the 31st is amazing! Best compressors I have ever used. Haven't spent a ton of time with the EQ but I really really like the compressors. The black compressor is useful too I grabbed it a few hours ago and the black and vintage compressors have gotten the most use out of me thus far.

Another vote for Valhalla Ubermod. You can get delays, reverbs and chorus effects. DimChorus2 preset is great for widening the stereo image and makes lead guitar lines really stand out

Having some fun tonight playing with a demo of a new release from the folks that brought us Xils 3, it's named Chor'X - the Spacializer Chorus.  I've been doing some subtle stuff with it as well as some serious mangling of sounds.

I remember reading something about the Sonitus delay having a bug of some sort. If I remember correctly, it was taking a leak or something......????

Heh ... I see what you did there. The memory leak was fixed in X1b: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013233
