Sonar and RME not playing together

I'm hoping that someone who has an RME FF 400 can help me hear before I have to go to tech support.  Things were fine until I installed the new PC2A compressor the other day.  I have X1d expanded and the latest driver for the FF 400 (ver. 3.067) as well as the latest firmware.  The problem began when I installed the PC2A and it made my FF driver disappear.  IOW, the little red circle with the X in it came up next to the speaker icon in my taskbar.  The icons for the total mix and the driver settings are still there, but unresponsive.  When I open Sonar, it says I have no drivers installed.

I have tried using system restore and image restore functions to no avail.  In the past, if I had a driver problem I could just reboot my computer and all would be well.  Not this time.  Does anyone have any ideas what I can do before I call tech support?  Thanks for taking the time.

All the best,
Lynn

I recorded for 7 hours yesterday with PC2A and all was well, but when I turned on my computer today the driver was gone.

well if you restored your system to a point that was before the PC2A install, that completely rules it out as the culprit....

I would look at other variables. Have you tried completely uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the RME unit?

I have the UFX Fireface also and virtually no problems at all (X1d Ex with the PC2A). Sounds lame I know but any chance the cable connection (or the card itself) got loose somehow?

the total mix and FF icons are still there, yes?  But do they work - can you use them to actually make changes to the FF400 unit itself?  If you can do a system restore to an earlier date where it worked, and it still doesn't work, I'd suspect a H/W or connection  problem.  If you can't access the unit from the FF driver page, having restored, I'd suspect this is almost certainly the case.

Another thing to try would be using the FF to play system sounds through, outside Sonar.   If you can't do that, either, then more indication of a H/W, or at least non-Sonar problem....

Sorry to have taken so long to respond, but I spent the better part of two days rolling my system back and forth.  Finally, it started working again without me actually knowing how I fixed it, but I made a ghost image of my hard drive in case it ever happens again.  Thanks for taking the time to respond to me.
