PC sound cards require a near "line level" input for proper operation.  The low level output of a guitar pickup is not sufficient for proper operation.   Same way with a standard P.A. type microphone, it needs a preamp to bring it up to proper level.

A small mixer would work to get the level of a guitar pickup or microphone up to the level required by a PC sound card.  Or if your amplifier has a preamp out or a recording output jack, that will work with the PC.  But, DO NOT connect the speaker out to the PC or you can damage the PC sound card.

nothing for the guitar.  MIDI cables are used for transmitting MIDI data to and from a MIDI controller like a keyboard or electronic drums.

Please I use to own one of those - for computer games. That is all it is good for. Do yourself a favor and get a audio/interface sound card. Really! http://www.sweetwater.com...udio/audio_interfaces/ Just one of many places where you can at least look at all the different ones.
