Al and Jesse

Goodness me, I got to hang out with two heavy hitters yesterday.

I know the good, the bad, and the ugly... and I forgot it all in their presence because it is simply an amazing experience to see that these guys are living in the NOW and kicking out the jams each and every day.

Just saying.

best regards,
mike

    Yes.

I attended a rally yesterday that was an experience I will not soon forget.

I find the 911 call linked to above to be poignant because it demonstrates, to me, that a so called neighborhood watch vigilante doesn't necessarily bring comfort or a sense of security to the neighborhood.

In this case the neighborhood watch vigilante killed a 17 year old boy, traumatized a neighborhood, scandalized a town, and has illustrated how perverse our system of legislative cow towing to think tank lobbies has become.

If the big guys didn't lend their voices the investigation of the killing of the 17 year boy would have never been reopened.

Sometimes you need a advocate and it's reassuring to think there are a few people up to the task and willing to speak up.

     best regards,
    mike

Al is a cat I once knew.  He liked Paul Simon.  He told us we could call him "Al".  At least, I think that's what he meant.  He used to wander around when he was hungry and call out, "Me Al!  Me Al!"

Jesse was a kid I used to know.  No relation to Al.  Jesse was 5 or 6 when I knew him.  He's probably older now.  We'd ride our bikes in the neighborhood, dodge the rock throwers, and attempt to leap from a moving bike to a tree branch.  It didn't always work out quite as well as you might think.  When it was hot, we'd go play with a water moccasin in the creek behind my house.  He had a sister.  Jesse did, not the snake.  I think her name was Glegnard.  Jesse's sister, I mean, not the snake.

The snake had a cat named Al.

    Hope that helps.

So where do you think this is going MIke? Of course it's been on the news up here every day and I'm gob smacked that the law as it stands says that if there's no witness the guy doing the shooting is taken at his word that deadly force was needed to save his life.

I don't think this is over. It's unfortunate that this is the way you got to hear two incredible public speakers.

That is too sad...what a tragedy.

    Re:Al and Jesse 2012/03/27 17:06:01 (permalink)

    Hi John,
I think Mr. Zimmerman will be arrested, charged, and stand trial and that someone other then me will have to judge what happened.

I also think that before it's over we will know about every bad mistake the 17 year old Trayvon Martin made in his short lifetime, even though none of that information will be pertinent to the actual episode that caused his death.

I predict that the NRA will try to "swift boat", any and every official that publicly advocates for the idea that Trayvon Martin was killed unjustly. The NRA and the think tank ALEC believe that a person such a George Zimmerman should be "immune" from prosecution under the circumstance of self defense.

The fact that Mr. Zimmerman ran after the 17 year old boy despite the instructions from the 911 dispatcher to not do so makes it seem like the "self defense" claim may be on shaky ground. The fact that Mr. Zimmerman had a gun and weighed approximately 100lbs more than the 17 year old boy may also raise some questions.

The fact that Mr Zimmerman had practice fighting, including a record of resisting arrest with violence against an officer as well as 2 instances of domestic violence while the 17 year old boy has no record of violence, may undermine the idea that the 150lb boy was causing the 250lb vigilante with a gun to act in self defense.

There is a document on record, dated the night of the incident, sworn by the investigating officer, that recommends that Mr Zimmerman be charged immediately but it turns out the politicians who supervise the officer would not approve of the charges being filed and so Mr Zimmerman was freed and allowed to take his gun home that night.

I think this illustrates just how fragile our society really is and I am personally glad to see citizens speaking up when their public officials choose to kow tow to a special interest lobby.

I think it's going to be a rude eye opener and it will be very educational for everyone.

I could feel the families pain... I guess all that is left is to look at what possible good might come of the ensuing dialog.

     all the best,
    mike

And I'm sure (or would like to be) it's not over yet.
