Lower performance running on batteries

Hi All,

I currently have a problem where X1 is providing different level of performance when my laptop is operating on batteries as opposed to powered, even though I have the performance settings for Win7 set the same for both modes.

I have tuned up the system for good performance when powered, but don't get the same results when running on battery. If I turn off all effects the CPU activity drops back to what it normally would be, but heads off the scales when I turn it back on, even though I am not overdoing it with the effects.

Any ideas as to why the performance of the effects drops to such a low level when the laptop is battery powered.

    Could it be?

    Intel® Mobile Pentium® Processors with Intel® SpeedStep™ technology let you customize high performance computing on your mobile PC. When the notebook computer is connected to the AC outlet, the new mobile PC runs applications with speed virtually identical to a desktop system. When powered by a battery, the processor drops to a lower frequency (by changing the bus ratios) and voltage, conserving battery life while maintaining a high level of performance. Manual override lets you boost the frequency back to the high frequency when on battery, allowing you to customize performance.

    By default, when the notebook computer is plugged in to the AC power, the processor will run in Maximum Performance mode and when it is running from the battery, the notebook will run in Battery Optimized Performance mode. If you wish to override this option and have it run at maximum performance at all times even when plugged into the battery, change both options to maximum Performance.

    There are two performance modes offered, Maximum Performance and Battery Optimized Performance. Maximum Performance mode provides near desktop performance and Battery Optimized Performance mode provides the best balance between performance and battery life and operates at a lower frequency.


    Just something to check if applicable to your situation.

    Most likely the battery doesn't have what it takes to run it. Maybe the battery is old and you need a new one or maybe that's just how the battery power works for your laptop, When a battery starts losing its charge, the pc can do thins to conserve its power

    This problem is caused by your power settings on your laptop...

    The default settings are usually "balanced", in which case the laptop will do whatever
    it takes to maximize battery life...

    On my laptop I have mine set to "balanced" when unplugged, but
    when the charger is plugged in it's set to "High Performance"
    and I only use Sonar when plugged in...

    If you are doing mobile recording set it to "High performance" when unplugged,
    but be advised that the battery life will be greatly diminished...

    These settings are under "Hardware and Sound"  then "Power Options" in Win 7

    Oops...missed part of that...

    Are both modes set to "High Performance"???

    Both settings (powered/battery) are set to "High Performance". I have also set minimum processor speed to 100% for both modes, so should not be processor dropping in speed.

    Batteries are reported to be in "Excellent" condition, so that should not be a problem.
