ARC 2 Previewed

http://www.ikmultimedia.c...isplay.php&Id=3542

Wonder what the upgrade $ will look like.  Also wondering whether I should buy it now while it's on sale, even if I probably won't be able to use it before another 6 or 7 months. At least... :s

Obi, let us know when you have any info regarding pricing, will you? :)

This might be a great time to ask how/if they can control the time alignment between your tweeters and your non-tweeters discretely at each driver.

Maybe they can add that feature?

Hope I can use my $41 in Jam points against the upgrade.

Good luck with that!  IKMultimedia would not let me use my jampoints to get ARC last week.  And if they were to put it on sale, you can't use jampoints for their sale products.  I have $101 jampoints  near expiration but can't spend them as I have most of their product line already.

I agree it would be nice to be able to combine JamPoints with offered discounts and sales, but to their credit, the Jampoint policy as listed on their support page has been pretty clear about it for quite sometime so I can't say it would ever catch me by surprise .

I'm in a similar boat as you in that I have almost all the IK Multimeida products in some form or another (I even own a hardware product from them) with ARC being really the only one I'm interested in.  I have JamPoints close to expiration, but have always taken the stance to not pay retail price for any of their products, almost all have been acquired either through group buys or sale pricing.  But once again, It's always been pretty clear to me they cannot be combined.

Jind--yeah you are right--They do explain it and make it clear in the policy that you can not use Jampoints on sale products; I just did not know that ARC was on sale when I tried to buy it.  I also agree that it is best to try to buy IKM products in a group buy or when they are on sale.  I may end up loosing my jampoints, but I would rather loose them and get a good end result bargin, than use them and end up paying more.  Look at the TRacks Deluxe deal--that was fantastic.  However, I got it two years ago along with most of their products.  I was just trying to find a use for my jampoints before they dissipate into space.

I used a fair amount of Jam Point towards the Custom shop. For now I have all I want from there. If I lose the $41, so be it.

Don't discard your points so soon, they'll be coming with some additional module(s) for t-rax me thinks.

Will it be an upgrade for sure? All I have seen is assumptions that it will be an upgrade rather than having to buy a whole new system... I probably just missed it but is this for sure the case, that the ARC will be able to be upgraded to ARC 2 ?
The reason I wonder is because it has hardware involved so ??

    Thanks,

    Julien,

    What hardware is involved?

If you mean the mic, Obi says you can use you Arc 1 mic for Arc 2.

I've not seen any mention of hardware, but I could have missed it.

For those with ARC 1 there will be a discounted upgrade to ARC 2. If you don't have ARC 1 yet, check out the current sale we are having on ARC for $199. It may end up saving your money in the long run buying ARC 1 now and upgrading when ARC 2 comes out instead of waiting for ARC 2.

Another thing to consider is that there are clearly a lot of folks here who really, really like ARC 1.  I'd say you can't go wrong buying it.  In fact, I'm really wondering what IK can put in ARC 2 that will be so compelling that I'll feel a need to upgrade.

I'll be honest, it would be nice to have a little more clarity than "it may end up saving you money".  I'm very interested in ARC, but I'm willing to wait if the price of ARC 2 is less than ARC 1 plus the upgrade path price.  Just saying.

I'd venture to say a new ARC 2 will be $349 and am upgrade will be $49 or $99 (maybe $49 without mic is my idea). That's about the only way I can see you saving any money.

    If ARC 2 was $299 and upgrade is $49, that's the a savings with $199 + $49 upgrade.

Simple. Unless my math is off somewhere.

See the thing is - I've seen Obi respond that the mic from Arc 1 can be used in Arc 2, but I've yet to see it stated that a version without the mic will be made available as an upgrade, so two upgrade prices is speculation at this point (unless I've missed a definitive statement to the contrary).  If I have please correct me.  I guess I'm just looking for the "you will definitely save money" or the "there will be an upgrade package minus the mic" type statement, until then I can wait.  If I hear the special is ending, I may have to reconsider.
