Comping mute tool is not always working?

Hi, since the mute tool was introduced (I cant remember in wich sonar version) it never has worked as espected.

When I have some layers on a track, sometimes I can hear a part that is muted with the mute tool, then I press stop and play again, and it sounds muted as it should be. But you never know when is going to play it good.  Sometimes it works good for a while and suddenly it starts ignoring all the work done with the mute tool

I always end working in the old way, cuting clips and muting with the "K" key but is soo much slower!

Have anyone used the comping tool without problems?

Daniel

I use the mute tool for comping an awful lot, as you would if you had a voice like mine.

I can't say I have had any problems with it. Way back in Sonar 5 or 7 (can't remember) it was quite buggy as to what played and what didn't but that was fixed several versions ago and hasn't been a problem for me since.

Are you sure that you aren't accidentally muting and unmuting whole clips? It is a subtle difference in action until you get used to it. Click on a clip will mute/unmute it while click and drag will mute/unmute a section depending where the cursor is and whether you have the ctrl key held down or not. If you don't drag you will end up muting the clip.

If you do a lot of comping you may find a couple of my videos helpful. Comping screenset & my comping method

If you're sure it's not pilot error I'd contact support for help but it definitely works as expected here.

    Hi FBB

Thanks for your answer...its good to know that it works for you. You said that in earlier version there where bugs, did you experienced this kind of bug I was describing in earlier versions? (hearing a muted clip area randomly)

I saw the videos and I work similar to you :)

The weird thing is that in my case you never know when is going to play a muted area...its a random thing.

I tried also to bypass the FX bin, thinking that it could be any plug in on the track but made no difference.

Worst thing is that sometimes it works as expected, so its very dificult to track the problem...

Yes when I was experiencing the bug it was almost as if it was ignoring the mute areas sometimes. I haven't experienced that in a very long time though.

Is it all projects or just some? Does closing Sonar and restarting fix it? I know how annoying it used to be but whatever was causing it for me was fixed some time ago. V8 I think. Sorry I can't be more help.

Is this on a project that you have adjusted the tempo map? I found the Mute tool to be SO buggy before, that I've always slip edited the clips. I found that when I had manipulated the tempo map, the mutes/unmutes didn't work properly. (this was pre-X1) Once bitten, twice shy for me. Haven't used it since.

I had the a similar problem with the mute tool comping (the project had a tempo map.)

Worked for some clips and not other, also the end of some clips would remain active after muting.

Resorted to importing the rogue clips back into the project and then using good old split and cross-fade.
