Karyn The cartoon squid was right.. $28.67 exactly. He could go open source, but it will cost $2,345,343.04. However it will be free from encumbrances, which I think means it weighs only a few milimeters.

Bub I was reading on the net that there are two guitar makers in Korea that are the Gibson and Fender of their country. This blue one I have is made by one of them called Cort. ... Just did some more reading and discovered that it's 'the' Cort. The famous Cort guitar company. I never knew they were always based out of S. Korea. ... Just did some more reading and found out they make guitars for a lot of people ... Fender, G&L, Ibanez. What the heck, doesn't anyone make their own guitars anymore? Interesting reading on Cort guitars. Disclaimer: I know nothing of what I speak, but I would venture to say that Cort *might* be the manufacturer of the non-American version of the JamesTylerVariax. Why not? They are referred to as the Korean version.

Just change over the nut and saddles. Maybe 50.00 to 100.00 for a set-up shops time.

Can't remember their name. Ya know what's really grinding my gears ... how everyone is calling American made guitars 'Custom Shop' guitars now. What a crock of sales tactic bull dung. And on that note, gentlemen, I bid you Adieu for the evening. Going to go play with my new R37 control knob for a while.

UbiquitousBubba You could try getting your hands switched. I would be concerned about a surgical mistake resulting in having my hands attached backwards. I wouldn't want that to make me look silly when I slap myself. You don't switch the hands, silly; you switch the hemispheres of the brain. Which makes it easier since they're so close together.

Bub, I think Samick is the biggest Korean guitar company with Cort being #2. At least it was a few years back. There's another really big company called Sam Woo. The make stuff for anyone and if you need something cheap they used to offer strats at $25 ea. in 100 unit orders. You could send them an instrument and get it back along with the copy and a price quote for production.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. "Ya know what's really grinding my gears ... how everyone is calling American made guitars 'Custom Shop' guitars now. What a crock of sales tactic bull dung." I have not encountered this. Almost all my guitars are made in USA factories and only 3 of them are labeled "custom shop". I have a really sweet Telecaster from Fenders, admittedly large, custom shop. It looks plain jane and plays like a really fancy guitar. It is like a "fretless wonder". I have a Hamer Special, built in a year during which they didn't list that model in the catalog, with the custom order paperwork signed by Mr Danzig. I bought it used recently and I have come to realize that it is finest set up guitar I own. I also have a much fancier Hamer Artist, but it is definitely just "factory" grade compared to the custom ordered Special. BTW, the Special was commissioned by Gryphon Guitars in Palo Alto... one of my very favorite shops. I thought it was a great coincidence as I bought the guitar used and didn't see the paperwork until it arrived. :-) I also have a Martin OM28-custom that has "made to custom order" wood burned in the neck block with my custom order paperwork that describes each and every detail. I ordered it and then they built it. I have high hopes to add a Custom Spacey guitar to the "stash" sometime in the near future. I'm at the point where I have chunks of wood to hold all the various pickups that I want to be able to play, but I still get excited when I see a nice clean guitar. :-) all the best, mike

Mike I've been working my butt off on my shop. It's required me to do things I've never done so I can't estimate completion although I'm hoping to be building before the end of summer. Should I get a variety pack of plastic? LOL...just poking :)

Michael, I can only imagine what you are going through. I continue to remodel our house and studio and am, personally, haunted by the desire to just back to working in the studio... but I want my space to finally be tight and right so we've been obsessing over the remodel. I'm glad to think you haven't changed your mind, and we'll use as little plastic as possible. :-)

There are some, one example, Gretsch, who call their U.S. made guitars 'Custom' guitars, but looking further in to it, that seems to not be the norm for that terminology. And I could even be wrong about the Gretsch web page. There's very little info on where they are actually made other than the 2 guitars listed in the custom section of their site.
