Resetting outputs in HS7 XL

Hi All

I feel I should know this but I can't figure it out, setting up HS 7XL on a friend's PC with an M-Audio Delta 2496 soundcard using ASIO drivers.  Tracks have a default output of Master which results in silence, to get sound I have to manually reset the output of evey track to the appropriate stereo out on the sound card.  I know there's a way to make this the default which makes this unecessary but can I find the setting - not for the life of me.  I've long since migrated to X1 so have forgotten all these setup tweaks for HS (shame on me).

The PC is a Vista box (I know - we have talked about moving it on to Win 7) and it's a quad core box with 4Gb RAM and ample disk space so there is no spec issue.  I have been into the Windows sound settings and made the Delta the default sound device but still no avail.

It's also odd that when using Pianissimo in stand-alone mode, you get no option for an output if you use ASIO, it only works in stand alone with WDM?? Not sure if these two things are related or not.

I'm stumped so any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

Are you sure that under Options>Audio that the Driver Mode is ASIO? When using ASIO, it is impossible to use 2 different audio devices and almost impossible to use a stock computer sound card since very few stock sound cards use ASIO. The stock sound card should not even be available to select when in ASIO, unless you have one of those rare devices.
What is the Master bus's output set to?

Ideally, all of your tracks should be going to the master bus.
What is the master bus output set to?
Check that the master bus is not muted and volume is set to 0dB.

Cheers guys, I will check this out. The default sound card is a realtek audio that I would normally disable if it was my PC but it's not set as the default Windows device so should not be a problem; the M--Audio card is a PCI job that is designed for DAW apps. Definitely ASIO (I have checked), the M Audio has two output channels and offers L & R Mono and stereo for each output channel - so six in all. Just can't remember how to set the default output channels on the master bus - I am sure that's the fix I am looking for. As for the Pianissimo problem - that's got me completely stumped but it works OK from within the DAW so I guess that'll have to do. Andy
