3rd party tracking software in forum
I decided give the Opera browser a whirl. So far its not as broken as FF in here, but has some issues with FaceBook. Anyway, I digress. One of extensions that I stumbled upon was a tracker tracker. As you all know - or should - websites can set cookies and scripts that will continue to track where you surf after you leave a site. They do this so they can then target you with specific forms of advertising (as the least insidious use for this). Modern browsers supposedly give you the ability to disable this, and of course, its always wise to turn off third party cookies in your browser. The problem is, it can be very hard to get rid of these cookies (they are called zombie or persistent and often hide multiple copies in places around your whole file system not related to the browser). This little extension called "Ghostery" tells you what tracking scripts are built into a web page. Sadly, this forum has two: Google Analytics, and OwnerIQ. With Ghostery you can block these nasty little spying bugs and secure your browsing experience and computer on this site, and others. Cheers Shad

Note that I only put the 172 in there so nobody would feel individually offended.

True enough Jon. However, my intention was to show that they can be controlled to some degree and to raise awareness of this activity for those who care about these things (as I know many don't).

I agree, flag 'em up! It seems like a constant battle against people that wanna take control of my machine at times, I swear.

Seems like the whole of the internet is basically noxious control freaks trying to get something for nothing. I don't mind abandoning the whole freakin thing.

A larger concern to me is that the NSA is keeping a record of everything you do and say--well not quite _everything_ just yet. But that's their goal and they're going to be able to do it soon. And they're storing it in my backyard. http://www.wired.com/thre...ff_nsadatacenter/all/1
