What about the (good old) FILE INFO window? Can it be docked??

You know , I still use that FILE INFO text window to write down simple info about that project that I don't want to note on a paper pad, where I wont be able to find it when I have to re-work that track. SO any information and messages to myself get stored on the actual Sonar file and is there for an eventual remix 10 years after. Anyway, I wrote the structure of a track I have to completely edit and re-arrange in the FILE INFO text window, I got a client on the phone telling me specific mix changes, and the new structure for this new mix/version that I wrote there. I would love to DOCK that window to go "D" to see it, then "D" to hide it and edit, etc BUT I CAN't DOCK that view, is this true?? if I minimize FILE INFO, as my TRACK VIEW is maximized, I lost FILE INFO window and have to re open it! Very annoying, specially when I'm working on EDIT mode, that for me is without the control bar to have the whole screen for waveform. Any comments on this? Cheers dd

Don't think you can but there is a "description" box in the track section of the inspector that may be suitable. That can then be called and hidden via the "I" key cluster.

Hey, thanks for that, in this particular case that'll make it, cool. But I think that FILE INFO, as it is more like a full text field, deserves some revamp, or at least to be included in the new workflow. Obviously is something that remains there from the old days, but it's no longer a priority for Cake; Like Staff view, mind. My only regret with skylight. That "description" section you pointed out could make it though, but it should be (size) customizable, so I can read, example, the full song structure and comments, and not just those fixed 10 line text. is quite difficult to scroll down to read the bottom. If I could just "pull down' the bottom of that "track properties" window to expand.....

Yeah there's a few windows that are missing the abilities of "Skylight" File info - staff view - event list are some that spring to mind. It'd be great if they bought those up to the level that the rest of X1 is now at.

+1 completely agree but I admit that I don't use EVENT LIST as I did (all the time) on Cakewalks and Pro Audios. But Staff view is still a core sequencing and orchestrating view for those who sequence AND read music. As important as Track View, Inspector and Piano-Roll here. Let's hope they revamp that to the (great) level of the rest of X1...

Sadly nowadays the ability to read music seems to be a dying art. Used to be (in my day) anyone that had attended, let alone graduated, any form of higher education in music, had the skill of reading music. One thing I always used to do when composing, especially MIDI of course, was to check my work in the staff view. It would often show some glaring timing inconsistencies, or pitch errors in the harmony, and on and on, that other views would not because of the nature of written music versus piano roll, etc. I miss it a lot. It still works of course with simple MIDI, but once you get above a few tracks, and especially including audio files it becomes way too much work to be useful as a quick check. Another way I used to use it was to start all my compositions there, and then move to the piano roll to flesh out. Too much hassle now with the way it is. Sad. The File info box is even more important, and I use it on every project. I'm with you guys though and wish it were dockable so it could always be visible and useable (editable).
