Voice Over work and Side Chaining Compression

Hi all,

I'm recording some narrative for a software demo and I want some background music. I've purchased some royalty free music for the job. I had read that you could use a side chain compressor with the vocals to make the vocals stand out over the background music. I'm not sure how to set this up in Sonar Producer, and would appreciate any guidance you might have...

There's a billion ways to do this, you could just put a volume envelope on the music track and duck the music when the voiceover starts. You could use the Sonitus Gate to do the same thing. Actually that method works almost exactly like sidechaining the compressor except you don't muck with the rest of the compressor.
