It's a sticth getting old... cauterized my fingers twice today while soldering,

because it's getting so hard to see what I'm doing.

I use a big magnifier light contraption but it's a monocle and depth perception gets hard to judge when you only use it occasionally.

I got so frustrated I thought I might take up a new sport.

At least I'll be feeling no pain on my brand new callous pads when I jam on the 6 string tomorrow. :-)

I sure know how ya feel. I wear magnifiers too. They sure help with fretwork
but no relief from the bad feeling of my eyes not working. Getting old is a trip.

A doctor once told me, "Getting old isn't for wimps."  Every day I find something that proves that statement.

I've only had my bifocals about a year and I think they're already outdated.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

I use one of these little Gorillatorch lights, which allow you to get some light pretty much wherever (the magnetic feet stick to everything and tend to "collect" parts and tools though):

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I find burning my hands good and proper on the stove a week before prepares me well for a bit of light soldering.

That reminds me I need to find my gun and a bucket the Doctor wants me to provide a blood sample tomorrow.

I've been bugging out for a couple years and it sucks. I can't read a phonebook or most detailed schematics. The work around was to grab one of those Blackberry tablets for all my schematics in PDF format. Better than my computers because I know the section I want to examine and can simply enlarge it.

Fortunately I don't burn myself often and this week I built my first amp tag board. If it sounds good I'll leave the point-to-point wiring behind because it's very hard on the eyes. I also take the projector lenses from old 16mm units and use them as magnifiers.

Improvise and overcome, one with solder you'll become.

    Walked the road already?

Man, I need a push even to do that these days.

One of my hobbies is actually model railroading...one of the 'benefits' of this are the quite regular knocking on my head of the benchwork as I crawl out from underneath it...too many small concussions as it were...
