Files in the wrong location .... What have I done ?

Hi all
I Have my OS and Sonar X1d + any plugs on my C:\
My Drive D:\ for my audio Projects and my E:\ for samples and anything else I need video mp3s etc

Normally in my D:\ I just have folders with my project names and inside I just double click the project file and open.

I have been working on a few projects recently and had no need to go in to My D:\ drive to open them I just opened them from inside Sonar.

Today I looked in my D:\ Drive and have all my project folders there but for some reason all the audio files etc are not in the main folder but are now below the main folders on my list.

I must have changed something for this to happen but not sure what....

Is there a simple way to fix this and to put the audio back in the folders were it would normally be ?

Thanks for all help

Norrie :)

Be sure that you have per project audio folders checked in preferences.

To enable or disable the per-project audio folder option
    1.
Go to Edit > Preferences > File - Audio Data.

    2.
In the Per-Project Audio section, check or uncheck the Use Per-Project Audio Folders option.

    3.
Click OK to apply the change.

If you enable the per-project audio folder option, the New Project File allows you to choose the directory where you want to store the new project and a subdirectory where you want to store the project’s audio data.

as for the audio files that belong to that project and that are now stored in the "global audio" folder (I guess that's your case), you can: -after enabling Per-Project as John suggests, "save as" to the right folder and then audio for that file (you can look at those files and its placement in PROJECT|AUDIO FILES) shoudl be copied to the Audio folder inside the "track folder" or: -You can just manually move those files to the right location, and when opening that project you search+"reference from present location", but this could be problematic cause I don't think that project's default audio folder will change if you don't save as....

Audio files should always be stored in "per project" folders. The only exception I can think of is, if your audio files are not unique to that project, and you do not wish to make copies of the same file(s) in different locations on your system drive(s). The main reason is,(of course),to keep audio information,(audio files),together with project information,(project files). This not only keeps things tidy and is less of a problem for SONAR to find the proper files when needed, but also easier, and avoids losing, or leaving out, information (files) when saving projects. You can easily designate exactly which folder and where the files/folders are to be stored using the project/app preferences dialogue. Always make sure to not forget to select the "Save Per Audio Project" check box at the bottom of the "Save As" dialogue when actually saving.
