LOTTO

So if the Jaclpot is $540m and the odds are 176m, would you buy 176m tickets?

$1   LOL I was just wondering on how many ticket number possibilities there really are. If there is 539 million, I would by them all to make the 1 million extra. Of course the math works out much different once Mr Tax man rakes ya across the broken glass

A nice thought, but where would you get the $539m to buy them?

Well if you spend $176million to buy the tickets, that would be a deductible business expense thereby reducing the taxable amount to the IRS and your state.

I hear it's now an estimated $600 million before taxes and depending on your state.... somewhere between $350 to $400 M after taxes... So, the only problem with using that business model, which does pretty much assure you of a winning ticket.....

The downside is what if two other people also pick the same winning numbers? Now you are in negative returns territory even with a winning ticket.

So.... I think I might have to waste a few dollars today on some tickets.... just for grins. You can't win it if you ain't in it.... or so they say.

Schedule for tomorrow is shopping for islands in the Carribean  and a Gulfstream to get me there.... a 40,000 acre ranch in Wyoming, and ..... well that's probably all I can fit into one day.... I'll have to do the rest next week.

And of course, a party for all my Cake buds and buddettes in Vegas.... I've always wanted to see if Randy's stories about Vegas were true.

They say it's at $640M now.

The risk you take spending $176M and you aren't the only winner.
Now you're down to $320M, the govt takes a chunk of that for taxes and then you realize you only get a portion of that total or take it as $12M a year for 26 years.... which, there's nothing wrong with that... unless you spent $176M buying tickets.

Herb, are you buying a lotto ticket for this California 600mil or are you getting one for your state?

I heard people are in loooong lines waiting to buy tickets (in Cali).

I'm already in Vegas, so I'm ready Mike.......
Bapu'sgonna love the Open Mic setup.....I heard he's been practicing with X1.

Most of the really long lines were at places that had a reputation for being lucky--up until 3 or 4 o'clock yesterday.  Of course, those places were shown on the news every half-hour.  Then everyone seemed to have the same idea about getting a ticket at the last minute.  I went to a drug store after work.  I was looking for other things, since I already had my tickets.  I almost couldn't get in because the Lotto machine was near the door and the line must have been 30 people.  Once I saw that they weren't waiting to check out, I did my shopping and left.

Sorry I won't be seeing everyone in Vegas [sigh].  Back to the real world--until next time.

Good luck to everyone.  I hope someone won something.

    Morning after the LOTTO....

so I go online to see the winning numbers.....

nope.... none match... so I throw them all in the trash can..... then I stop and think.... I remember that if several numbers match you win lesser amounts... so I pull them out of the trash and write down the winning numbers.

I look closer at the number on my tickets.... WOW!  One of the number combo's I chose missed the winning number by two numbers. And the PB matched.... look up the rules..... looks like I won $150 on that ticket..... almost 4x what I spent. Another ticket in the bunch nets me $2.....

Why didn't I pick 35 instead of 38? I'd have a quarter million ... Pffft....  or 2 rather than 8... we'd all be packing for Vegas......

I'm in a profit situation at this point as regards the lotto (although not as much as I'd like to be) .... do I spend it on more lotto tix, save it, spend it, invest it, ...... ?

I make a point of playing the week after the "big" win.  The odds are much better, and not as much publicity so that there's not as many con-men coming after you.

You're right, of course.  I should have said there's less competition and less chance of more than one winner.  Thanks for catching that.

Great news.  Sorry you didn't get a few more of those numbers.

oh well... there's always next week.... $20million ... I wouldn't turn it down.... but in reality, I probably won't play it again util it gets stratospheric again.

Lets see... what was plan "B" again....?
    Only $20 million!  Not enough for X1. . . I guess I'm stuck with 8.5 for a while.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?
