Thanks FastBikerBoy. I honestly did search for quite a while and simply couldn't find the right answer. I guessed it must be something easy but sometimes the most easy things are hard to find. It really amazed me that right away i was called a troll. Why would i possibly come here to troll. I'm since then still figuring out stuff and try to do as much searching as possible but most likely i will ask for help a few more times. And to some people it might sound dumb but i wouldn't ask it if i simply couldn't figure it out.

And also thanks to all the other people who took their time to explain things. It really helped me out a lot! I run my own forum (something totally different) and i realized that what seems very easy to me is a maze to others. So i do my best to answer those questions. Once again thanks. I really appreciate it that so many of you took the time to explain something "easy" to me!

I had the same confusion and still don't get why they have you set up a track for left or right instead of just saying mono.
It would seem clearer to set up the choices for stereo or mono in the first place seeing as left can become right with post recording panning.
I assume it's just some convention that sonar uses?
Do other DAWs do this too?
No big deal once you know, but odd.
Is it to conserve memory?

Hi there I assume you mean roland quad capture and its a really good partner to Sonar so don't dispair. First thing, record a mono track only by selecting 'left quad capture 1-2' from the input drop down and plug into the left front panel input only. Do not select a stereo pair input such as 'stereo capture 1-2'. The resulting recorded mono track can be panned left or right from the console. You can tell its mono from the single waveform in track view rather than two ganged waveforms. Its easy to miss this and just record stereo all the time.

Rain Recording Nimbus. Sandybridge 2600k, 16gb Ram. Quadro FX 580, Roland Quad Capture. Avid Artist Mix and Transport. Loads of other cool stuff.

Id just select the problem track that you recorded, right click on the clip and select convert to mono. As for future, see above

I just wonderin'? If your feeding your sound cards output back to the Mackie for monitoring, unless you depress the MUTE solo buttons the sound would be re-recorded with the vocals will it not? Anyway, to use the Mackie I would use the direct output from your mike channel. This is generally cleaner. The last thing you would use is the mains out unless it was a sub mix of a stereo drum set up or a choir. The direct outs were put there for recording. ------------------------------------This topic is to much like a couple other threads with the confusion over the input numbering system.

It really amazed me that right away i was called a troll. Why would i possibly come here to troll.
I wouldn't take too much notice, it's a bit of a madhouse here most of the time sometimes. If I were you I'd be flattered to be called a troll within 10 posts, I had to get to several thousand before I got called that.
