metronome speeds up on its own

I am recording some MIDI for accompaniments for our Easter cantata. The first three were just fine but now while I am recording with the metronome, it will just decide on it's own to speed up or slow down during recording. I am using the same set up for each recording by just deleting the previous recording and resetting the metronome, time signature and key and then doing "save as". Can anyone tell me how to stop the fluctuations in the metronome? I'm struggling to get this ready in time!

What's your operating system and is it 64-bit?
What sound card or audio interface are you using?
Which version of SONAR Home Studio are you using?
Are you using tha audio metronome or the MIDI metronome?
What other programs are running when this happens?
Are there any scheduled tasks like virus scans or disk defrag going on when this happens?
What software synthesizers (if any) are you using when this happens?
Is the computer connected to the internet when it happens?
Are you using any wireless devices like webcams, printers, etc.?
If it worked fine before with the same settings and devices connected, it's almost certainly something robbing the program of RAM, like automatic updates, scheduled tasks, or some program running in the background.

Engraver, Greg raises some valid points, but there is also a possibility that you may be inserting tempo changes, rather than changing the tempo for the whole project.
The tempo you choose only affects the project from the position of the now time marker forward.
If the now time happens to be anywhere but the very beginning of the project, this will result in speeding up or slowing down within the project.
Check your tempo map to be sure that isn't what's happening.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to do some checking using your suggestions. I was successful in my recordings but it will save a lot of time if I can keep the tempo constant.
