No Midi in or out

Hello,  I have an odd problem that I just can't get my head around.  X1 has stopped registering midi.   midi route - piano - remote 25 - VS100 - computer.   In x1 preferences midi devices, the Remote 25 is not there, which leads me to assume it's at fault.  The computer has it in devices, but has a yellow warning triangle beside it.  I have done all the usual - troubleshoot - re-install - update driver - etc. I recently downloaded  the free amplitude 3 and sampletank if that has any bering on it.    Please help 'cause I can't record any keys. Thank You.

unplug it and plug it back in? The midi device.....

yellow icon indicates there is some sort of trouble with it... could be a communications error. I've never heard of this before.

I would delete it from the computer and let it find and reinstall it and see if that solves it.

Has nothing to do with Sonar. Check Windows.

It is definitely a driver issue of some sort. I would try an uninstall and re-install again. Try removing the drivers completely though. You'll probably find the option to do that in the Control Panel-->Programs and features, although you may get the option when uninstalling the device.

When you install a driver from a manufacturer it gets placed in your Driver Store where it will stay until removed, even if you uninstall the device, the driver usually gets left behind.

When you next plug the uninstalled device in again, windows looks in the driver store first to see if there's a driver for the device and then assigns it from there. Of course if there's a problem with the driver it's just re-assigning the problem. that's why you need to remove the driver completely and then re-install the driver, then install the device.

Until Windows "sees" the device correctly Sonar won't either.

I've had a similar thing happen from time to time with my M-Audio Midisport 4x4 midi interface.  After trying all the usual things mentioned above I accidentally found I could get things back if I uninstalled the M-Audio driver, unplugged the interface, rebooted, and then let Windows find a driver (i.e. don't let on you've got an 'official' one).  I can't say this will necessarily work for you but it's a wrinkle that worked for me and I know how frustrating it can be when you run out of things to try.

Another oddity I found was this.  In the Preferences MDI Devices page, if I saw no devices installed, and then clicked on the 'OK' button, moved off this page and then revisited it, they would be there!

    My stuff

    Intel Sandy Bridge i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads, 16GB RAM.
OS & Programs drive: 240GB SSD
Data drives: 1 x 1TB drive RAID mirrored, plus extra 1TB data drive
    Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Cakewalk by BandLab 64 bit, Studio One 3,
    Band In A Box 2016, Ozone 8
    + too many other plugins
