Any experiences with a couple of the Waves vocal plug suites?
Have been curious about a couple of them: The Jack Joseph Puig http://www.sweetwater.com.tore/detail/JJPVocalsNat and the Chris Lord-Alge http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CLAVocalNat For $65 a pop, I'm curious. I have the tools (Rode tube mic, Focusrite ISA one, UAD EMT reverbs and EQs) but not the talent to get good vocal tracks easily. If one of these might simplify matters and let me ease the burden on my lonely UAD2 solo, I could be tempted. I was interested in the IK group buy mainly as a vocal-assist, so I see this as a possible alternative.

strikinglyhandsome1 They were $49 on sale a day ago! Yeah--the March prices are gone. Even over on Wavesuniverse.com the prices have gone up today, but they are still a little better than buying directly from Waves or even Sweetwater; the individual plugins are now $60.80

You know I wasn't really expecting much of those, but I checked a quick demo of the Kramer ones (the ones I assumed would be the less versatile and retro-sounding) and all I can say is wow. If somebody offered me something like that a few years ago (w/o iLock and at such a low price) I'd have jumped on it. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I've taken the other approach and invested time and energy trying to learn. Takes me a bit longer and a few more plug-ins, but I think I can do as good on my own and then some. Hopefully. :s Still a bit awkward to see things you've struggled so hard to learn and tame taken care of at a push of a button.

In your opinion, how are those compared to SONARs Vocal Channel? That 64$ sure makes me interested in trying, but I don't want to waste my money, still.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I've used CLA a number of times. Good Stuff. I use SONAR's too. Equally good. Different animals (at least the way I use them). Right now I'm using CLA, VX64 and Nectar on a vocal for some interesting results.

Well, I appreciated the input here, so I went ahead and tried to demo the various vocal suites. Now, I've followed the instructions pretty darn carefully I think, but can't get these vsts to work in Sonar. My DAW is offline. I can't put it *online* as it's a desktop and not remotely mobile (please take this on trust!) and does not have a wireless card. Having done the step-by-step offline install process, I successfully sent the license to my USB stick, installed the desired vsts from the entire Waves9 package on my DAW, have had them be successfully scanned (at least, they are available to add as an audio fx). And then...I get an error message saying that the plug isn't available. The USB with the license key is plugged in, however. Is there something I'm missing? I can't run the Waves License Installer on the DAW because it's offline. Would sure appreciate someone pointing out the obvious solution that I'm somehow missing!

I'm more of a tweaker and don't own Softube - the iLock was holding me back. But I appreciate. :) Since my wife has decided that we're getting Pro Tools - and the iLock that goes w/ it - I guess that's a whole new word of possibilities and a chance for me to maybe finally get some of those Softube plugs. :P I still hate the principle though (iLock).

Craig, I'd suggest e-mailing Dave at demo@waves.com He's usually quite quick when it comes to replying. @Kalle - Unless I'm missing something I wouldn't think it would work - it's the actual USB key which is authorized. It'd completely defeat the purpose if you could simply drag and drop authorizations on any offline computer.

I thought from vs. 9 on you can activate Waves plugins using per-computer challenge system, like Native Instruments, for example. I did not realise the USB stick acts in the same way as iLok.

Either you carry your 1 license back and forth between your computers using the USB key, or you authorize-unauthorize computers online one at a time. I guess no such system is perfect, but at least we're not tied to a 3rd party protection scheme anymore and we have the alternative of virtually transferring it.

M@ B I recently installed the Eddie Kramer Sig Series. How can I tell if i'm running the x64 version? Did you install it via the V9 installer and run the Waves License Center to put your license on either a USB stick, your computer or the Waves Cloud? Yes? Then it's 64bit (as well as 32 bit).

Of all the signature series the CLA is definitely my favorite. Probably because it IS NOT subtle. When you move a fader...you here something;-)

yes i did that - installed it to my computer. just wondering how i can confirm that when i open an instance, that it is the x64 and not the 32 bit? In my plug in list, it appears with "(32 bit)" next to it.
