Recorded at wrong sample rate, need to edit WAV headers to fix?

SO I recorded a project at 96KHz, only the soundcard didn't change its sample rate.  So the audio was recorded at 44.1 KHz but Sonar *thought* it was 96KHz: all the audio files claim to be 96KHz but the audio they contain is actually 44.1.  For example, if you play the audio back in any other program, it sounds 2X too fast.  The result is that I cannot mix or export the audio.  It sounds fine within Sonar, but all the exported audio is too fast.

Anyone got a solution?  What I really want to be able to do is easily rewrite all the WAV file headers to have the correct sample rate (my client is going to take the project elsewhere to edit/mix so I can just give him the files).

When this happens to me (and it has...) I use Adobe Audition's "Adjust Sample Rate" command. That fixes it right up. If you don't have Audition, I'm not sure what the command would be in other editors.

Oh, yeah. That's the command in Audition 3 and earlier. In Audition CS 5.5 they changed the command to "Interpret Sample Rate".

So, if I do this to all the audio in the project, will Sonar "understand" that the project is now 44.1?

I just did a quick test with one track and one clip in a sonar project. I recorded it a 44.1, then closed Sonar. I opened the audio file in Audition and "adjusted" it to 48 and saved it. When I opened it in Sonar, the project was now at 48. However... The end of the clip boundary had been adjusted out, as if it had been slip edited. I'm sure the sample rate change confused Sonar as to where the clip boundaries were. But give it a shot. After you make a backup of course.

If you "adjust" the files then create a new project at that sample rate and drag in those files you should be fine. Or just keep the project as is and only do the "adjust" on your mixouts.

Thanks for your help Steve. I think I can export all the files, and then adjust the exported files (my client just needs exports anyway). By the way, for people who stumble on this thread, this is a terrific free tool for fixing WAV file headers that I found while trying to solve my problem: http://www.railjonrogut.com/HeaderInvestigator.htm
