Why it takes so long???

The "Clean Audio Folder" comand takes a lot of time to scan... Why?

Looks like it scans all my computer after audio files related to a given project...

It not supose to just look to the project's audio folder and find what is not in use any longer in the project itself?

If you use per project folders I recommend saving the project to a different folder and the clips you are using will go to the new folder, thus cleaning that folder and it is much faster.

At least I am pretty sure this is what happens.

When I finish a mix (before master) I do what Lance does. Delete everything else in the master folder that has all the previous versions. Master, repeat... Works well.

I believe what it is doing is to scan the drives looking for .CWP files that are related to the audio files in the project being cleaned.  It's kind of a pain to wait through the process, but the hanging never has resulted in a crash on my system.

I find it a very valuable tool. There's lots of leftover files in my projects--unused comps, stems, you name it. Holding on to big WAV files from earlier bounces that are no longer referenced is of no use, and only clogs up my backup process.

As osd mentions it will scan your whole system, which has always bugged me, and that is why it can take a long time.

Ok wait, what's the difference between "clean audio folder" and CWAF (Cakewalk Audio Finder)? I've always used CWAF without a single problem removing orphans and other stuff. It only scans the audio drive I tell it to in options and takes about 15-30 seconds for me.

When I'm completely done with a project, I just delete the entire project folder. I use CWAF for getting rid of orphan punch-ins and other things I may have saved in a project at one time that were deleted out of the project yet were never deleted from the project folder. I've been doing this since Cakewalk introduced this feature and as long as the version of CWAF is up to date, I've never had a problem with anything.

It's been a known bug that CAF always scans the whole computer, no matter what you ask it to scan, hasn't it?

CAF can perhaps be a lifesaver if you have not used Per Project Audio folders. So Chuckebaby, it does help, but if you have always been organized with your audio, there are faster and easier ways.

I've used it several times in previous versions of SONAR.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I don't think it's a bug as such, I think it's more of a design issue or lack of customisation available for the user.

As I understand it you tell it where your audio files are stored and then it searches your whole computer looking for CW projects that are using any of those files. The "Safe to delete" list is the waves that are not in use by a CW project.

It would be better if the user could also tell it where to check for project files and limit that search, that's the bit that takes the time AFAIK. I know where all my project files are and they aren't spread all over my hard drives.

Exactly... What's the advantage of using per projects audio folder (wich is what i use) if a have to wait for a hole system scan???

What I need is:  FInd what is in this particular folder wich is no longer in use by this project... SO SIMPLE!!!

Hey Danny, I never tryed the CWAF thing... I can find and delete non used files from there?

    Peace.
