Wow, that sounds great. I'm pretty sure I do not have a piano like that in my arsenal. Hope it's ~ $100.

I'm guessing more like $250-$300 retail but if the introductory sale price is reasonable I might consider it.

I'd pluck it for $100-$125. $150 and beyond I'd be hard pressed to want it. Although I believe I have a piece that would really make use of that thing.

Same here, it sounds really nice but for limited use. Hope there's demo to to try so I can hear how it sounds & fits into a mix.

Me too. If I can load a demo I'd know in 30 minutes if its what I need for this one piece. But again, price will dictate if I would even download the demo.

although it sounds spectacular, it seems to be the reverb/ambience that's the winner.

Keep in mind this library is made for contextual use with an orchestra.

I like having the velocity curve right there. This should be a standard feature of all piano libs. Four mic distances is a cool feature, too.

I won't be buying it, though, as I already have all the pianos I need. Sampletekk's PMI Old Lady sounds similar to this one, is suitable for the same types of applications, and costs less.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

There's a sustain pedal glitch in this version, they're working on a fix.

I don't really think it sounds that great at all. When do you hear a piano that sounds like this?! Even with an orchestra?

If their angle on this is that it "cuts through the mix" when used in an orchestral context, then why didn't they demo it in that context? As it stands now, it's just a generic piano played at maximum velocity with a buttload of unnatural reverb on it.

Here's a Steinway grand piano that shines and sparkles with pristine quality. Something to compare with this spitfire. The spitfire is unimpressive.

Windows 7 64 bit, Sony Vaio Laptop Q740, 8 GB, Sonar Producer X1d, Focusrite Scarlett 18i, Korg Pa500, M-audio 61 Radium Keystation. Yup, based purely on that clip I'm not going to be rushing off to buy it. It sounds huge, but not in a way that sounds natural to me.

8Dio 1928 Legacy Steinway Piano Demonstration
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqL8cJSKFGc

Here's a video that shows off the Steinway Grand software and options. Its at least worth a listen if you're impressed with the spitfire. But it does cost 199 dollars. The Spitfire is dirt cheap by comparison. 8dio says that the piano is best suited "for soundtrack composers, songwriters and people looking for an advanced emotional and resonant piano. In addition the instrument was recorded with two sets of microphones (close/internal) and (ambient/player), so users can adjust the sound to their liking ranging from recordings inside the piano to a natural player perspective. We also added a variety of controls (ex. pedal volume, release volume, noise reduction, EQ etc) and a visual velocity editor, so you can fully sculpt the piano to your liking. "

Deep-Sampled 1928 Legacy Steinway Grand Piano 2 Microphone Positions (close/internal & ambient/player perspective) Round Robin Sustains (x 3 round robin pr. note & velocity layer) Round Robin Staccato (x 6 round robin pr. note & velocity layer) Advanced Release Triggers Pedal Noises and Pedal Noise Volume Control Custom Convolution Reverbs (+40) Bonus: 6 Piano Morphed Instruments Alien Drum (aka Hang Drum) Ambient Guitar Bells Metal Bowls Pipe Harp Propanium (aka Milltone) Several Custom Convolution Reverb(s) / Impulses 5 Kontakt .nki files 11.287 samples 12 GB installed 24 bit / 44.1 kHz stereo .NCW Compression Format
