Installed Sonar X1D and svchost.exe goes up to between 25-50% of CPU?
Very strange, reinstalled and X1c behaves normally, when i reinstalled X1d the CPU jumps to 25-50% via the process svchost.exe which seems to have something to do with power, plug and play and dcomlaunch services when I click go to services after getting the consle up via ctrl+alt+del. Anyone else experienced this? I'm running on a 32-bit windows 7 system and checked with Norton Security 2012 which says virus free. X1c is runnig just fine but X1d makes the computer misbehave and I also get latency that is really unpleasant. (sorry if my english is a little off, not my native language)

How much RAM is in this system? Was there any chance that there was a hotfix installed when you went to X1D? The upgrade for x1D was a little more complicated than most of the Sonar patches, and it caused some trouble for some people.

THings that might cause that are - as examples: Wireless Nics, Ethernet Nics, and any other devices that do background tasks/checking of any kind. Is it possible you enabled something when reinstalling?

4 GB RAM, and certainly possible that something that wasn't supposed to be activated is. Started to think of reinstalling the whole system and changing to a 64bit operative system instead of 32, if I can't solve this. I am going to try to solve the dcomlaunch problem first though. If unsolvable then I will reinstall. A pain this as it takes time from making music...

Have no idea what went wrong? Used unhackme to search for rootkits, just in case. When I was finished with that I uninstalled it and after that everything went haywire. Thank God for system restore, had an unindentified scsi-device in the device manager that I couldn't find a driver for. So restored the system to a previous save and voila! all is well!

4Gb is plenty of ram - certainly enough for X1D. First make sure there are no other programs taking up resources (like Norton). If there aren't you probably need to do a clean reinstall of Sonar. By that, I mean do a complete uninstall (also delete any Sonar folders left behind), then reinstall.

Cakewalk mentioned something about Norton being needed to be shut off when using X1. Personally,I'd never use anything but Microsoft Security Essentials,it's free, unobtrusive, and was voted as best at detecting,by an Australian PC mag. Some people even regard Norton as a paid virus. But please ignore me,it's trendy!

JonD 4Gb is plenty of ram - certainly enough for X1D. No 4GB RAM is to low for any Windows 7 x64 System and SONAR X1 x64 to run efficient and smooth! 8GM RAM are what I would say are minimum. 16GB RAM is good idea especially when memory is almost FREE/Cheap today! Personally I would go for 16GB or 24GB RAM.

Did anyone recommeding more RAM actually read the post. He is using 32 bit Windows 7, and is only considering the update to 64. Telling him to put in more RAM (while still 32 bit) would be a waste of time and money. BTW - I am running Sonar X1d on an XP 32 bit system with 4 Gig of Ram without any difficulties at all. The OP should not be seeing the problems he is seeing with X1d, and RAM is not likely the problem.

As I said - problem solved. Back to making music again. Codamedia is quite right, I'm only considering changing from Window7 32bit to 64bit to be able to use more than 4GB of memory, but hasn't decided when to do it. A lot of plugins are only 32bit ans since I solved my prolbem I will wait a while longer until the market matured/evolved a little more.

The majority of all plugins and programs are in full x64bit. I guess that only 5-15% still are in x32bit only. Pro Tools and Sound Toys...that isn't...who cares?! on KVR 1118 plugins are in full X64. How many plugins do you need? http://www.kvraudio.com/q.php

FWIW you can run 32 bit plug-ins inside Win7 64 and inside Sonar X1 64bit. For me ,the upgrade to 64 bit and to 12gb of memory over 4gb was like night and day in performance.

You folks who are arguing about his need for more ram are - respectfully - missing the point of the OP's post. The are plenty of users here working just fine with 4 GB ram on Win7-32 bit. Isn't that all we need to know? Does Win7/Sonar run better with more ram? Sure, it does! But the OP is reporting CPU spikes. That shouldn't be happening, with any amount of ram. Anyway, OP says issue has been fixed, so it seems the spiking was caused by Norton, which he has disabled or replaced. Case closed!

4 GRAM is full enough for x1d!. i use projects with 53 tracks (m-audio projectmix)...audio, midi...instrument tracks a lot of plugins and each track with automatisation curves at 256 samples...on an old laptop ASUS core 2 duo...4GRAMM, and i never feel that the computer is dying...with internet, wifi and microsoft essentials active.....i observed that the bluetooth...can cause popups...this ideea with a lot of RAMM are like american cars....too big and too havy...consuming a lot of gasoline.....why....i can obtain the same results with a european car...(OPEL ZAFIRA...5.5 liters/ 100km...7 seats...huge space...200km/h)

Myabe I was wrong about plugins then... Anyway it's a pain to reinstall when you don't have to, and since everything is running fine now I won't. It wasn't Norton that messed things up but probably a program called "unhackme" that I used after trying out a free plugin and I got a little paranoid. Only reason right now to change to 64bit system for me is Steven Slates Drums that I recently bought. It's a real ram-hog. But they are working on it.
