Any thoughts on the AKG Perception 170 small condenser mic?

http://www.akg.com/site/p...id,2,_language,EN.html

I had a MXL 604 but I gave it to my daughter and I want something to record acoustic guitar... best bang for buck and 99 bucks is right in my range. 150 or even 200 is OK but only if it really makes a big difference. I figure whie I am ordering an electronic drum kit I may as well replace the mic. I am open to suggestions but I cannot spend much more because there are also other things I need and I am still really a learning hobbyist at the most.

BTW, I just learned of a small studio that is only about 15 minutes from me that uses Sonar 8.5.3... I am going to try and see if I can get some lessons there. It is Talking Rock Studios.

So, do you think the PErception is good or would I do better with the Gauge ECM84, it is even cheaper. Or I couldget a pair of these Cascade mics for 150. http://www.cascademicrophones.com/cascade_M39.html

Thanks.. OH, after reading the responses to the drum kit thread I think I will go with the Alesis DM6 USB kit because using it to trigger SD3. BFD ECO, and EZDrummer... that is a MUST and thanks for the help.

    How many does Bapu own?

That's normally a good rule of thumb when choosing gear.

I'm not familiar with that one myself.

It looks like a good mic for recording (especially) acoustic guitar for that price range. Philz and I saw a very cool acoustic guitar mic at NAMM but it was in the $600 range.

I don't own an AKG Perception so I can't tell you "I have not had the time to use it yet". Mebee I aurght to buy a few?

I must admit although I've not bought one in certainly the last 10 or 15 years, I've never owned a 'bad' AKG mic, and I've owned a few over the years.

Not that that seems to mean much these days, but it's all I got.

Julien - I have mic recommendations on my website.  I don't remember if that one specifically is on it, but for $99 it should be decent.

I have a 120 at home which I use to record voices.  Of course it's a budget mic, but I think it's nice and "smooth".  Well-built and solid.

I'd expect the 170 to be equally nice but better suited for guitars.
