Hard Rock - New Original - * Minor Edit

Just finished this new original hard rock song. A friend of mine did the drums (PlanetZR). Very grateful to him. Would appreciate a listen and any feedback. Thanks.

    Chas,

    I like this song.

Vocal and guitars are good. The bass could be more distinctive. The drums have the wrong treatment, IMO. The drummer is good but they don't feel part of the song to me. The drum reverb is too long and deep.

    Good song.

Love the drum beat, but I agree with bapu they seems like they dont fit in sound character wise.

Love the vocal on the atitude on the title sentence! The vocals got buried a few times with the guitars.

Bapu and whack, thanks for listening. The problem. more than likely, is my mixing. I wasn't really sure how to proceed when I got the track.

You probably won't care what I think, but I like this quite a bit.  The mix is very well balanced and gritty at the same time.  Though the rhythm guitar was loud and punchy, it didn't fight with the vocal which takes some mixing skill.  The drums were well represented, too.  Very well done.

IMHO it definitely needs more bass through most of it. It's about right in the M8 section but disappears through the rest of it. I thought the vocals could be a little more prominent in places as well they seem to get a bit overpowered at times.

    Good job overall though.

Well it all seemed to fit for me.  Great drums, imho.  It sounds like there is tremolo on the bass.  Is there?  kinda cool.  I agree that the bass could be a bit "beefier".  Maybe not volume wise but something seems a little below the threshold.  Make sense?  It is a very good rocking tune.  Everything is played well and the vocals are awesome for the tune.  I think the lead could maybe come up a couple decibels but that could be personal preference.  All in all a really cool rock tune.

evadianepug, thanks lot for listening and for your comments. Glad you liked the song. No tremolo on the bass. It's midi bass and from Harmless synth (FL Studio). I will give the song another look and see if there's something I can do about the points you describe.

    Hey, Charlie,

I didn't hear the first mix, but excellent job on this punchy bar rocker!

Your buddy did a nice job on the drums, you've got great vocals and harmonies, I love the juicy sound of those smokin' guitar solos, and the mix sounds powerful and "In Your Face!", just like I like 'em.

Excellent work, my friend, have a great day!

The snare compression is all wrong...sounds like there is no attack, resulting in a soft snare.
That being said, his is a ton of fun. Loved the Frankenstein homage in the break.

I think if you converted this to a punk, instead of an alt-metal feel, and hired a young kid with a screamy vocal (think Jet) this could be a kick ass track that would play on the radio.

    But that's just my opinion.

jamesyoyo, thanks for listening and your comments. Just listened to Fraunkenstein and there is a hint of it in my song. Wasn't aware until you mentioned it.

ruralrocker, any punk rock groups out there are welcome to record this. It would be nice to hear this on the radio by someone. Thanks for listening and commenting.

I really like the song and playing.  The mix could be better.  My suggestions:
    1.  Put drums in the middle, compress and add lots of mid and high EQ.
    2.  Start with bass, drums, guitar (no tracking yet) in the verse and then bring it all in in the chorus (for dynamics).
    3.  Brighten the vocals and don't use any reverb - dry as a bone.

I would love to hear what this would sound like.  It may lend to much more edge and varying dynamics.

    Good job.

Rimshot, thanks for the listen and suggestions. Hope to do better on the next song. Think I'm going to leave this one alone for awhile. Will keep your ideas in mind if I do a remix at some point.
