Sonar 8 P, Changed the name of a project, lost the wav files, help.

Noobie here,
I had a project that i re-named, it then lost all the wav files, and could not find them.
So i re-named the project again back to it's old name to try and prompt Sonar to associate the
song with the wav. files. No worky.

Now i have 3 or 4 versions, and older version has the wav. files, but the new version that i edited
and worked hours on is all silent tracks. How do i get the wav's back into my newer version?

Help out a Canuck...
Thanks Rob.

The thing to do next time is always set up your projects so they're in a project master folder, and inside that folder, there's a folder for the audio. When you set up a new project, just make sure "Store project audio in its own folder" is checked. Then as you work, you can use Save As for new versions, even if they have totally new names, but those .cwp files will still be in the same project folder and the audio will remain in the same folder even as you add more tracks. If you then insist on changing the name of the master folder, you can do that without screwing things up, like losing track of audio. RB

What Randy is saying is truth! If you do not set Sonar's file pathways to your liking you will end up with a giant audio folder that is unmanageable. I always create a "Album" folder and within it is each "song" Everything to do with that song is in that folder-Lyrics,MIDI files, notes and most important the CWP with that song's Audio folder. While working on the song I may do a "SAVE AS" and rename it with a date. Make sure to always tick "copy all audio with folder" I will also do the "SAVE AS" to a back up drive as I feel the need. The date helps me keep currant versions sorted. EX- "Blow Me Down - March 30 2012" Speaking of dates, You will now have to sort through your mess of audio files and find those files you edited by using the date.Try sorting them to a new "audio" folder and pointing Sonar there when you try to open the song. The good news is nothing is ever missing ( gone) it is only misplaced. Another important part of keeping audio files organized is always name the track before you hit the record button.Otherwise they end up with gibberish names. If you name the track "Fat Bass" it will be stamped as such in the audio folder.

Thank you guys, i see the importance of a separate project file, takes the guess work out. I've got 14 songs in one project folder right now for this record. Where the change in name came in was when i sent the .cwb batch files for one song to an engineer to help edit it. When i got it back it was a new name example:
    Orignal Song Title: Grey
New Song tile: bobsGrey (b'cus bob edited it for me)
when i unbudle bobsGrey, it won't let me rename it, but indeed it will allow me to unbundle and change the name in a new project file.
But when i try to move it back in the larger project folder i get scilence, and it can't find the audio tracks.
If at the the end of the day i want that song back with 14 other songs and can i title it as the original song title: Grey?

So when i finish the recording and engineering, i can put theses all on one master CD, DAT, or what have you, to send off to be made ito CD's ?
