Sonar 8.5 PE: all VST plugins suddenly fail to load...?
Suddenly, out of the blue, Sonar won't load any of my VST's anymore. When I scan the VST-folders, it finds them all, scans them and all is fine. But when I try to load one or when I load a project, I get a message Sonar can't find them... and this goes for ALL my VTS's...!
I am working on Windows 7 64 bit.
Anyone has a clue what the heck is going on here...???
Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's.

When you use the term "out of the blue" then that implies that you have made absolutely no ( zero ) changes to your system. You'll have to think about what you have just changed because otherwise there can be no explanation.If every time you have started Sonar and your plug ins were there then it will always be so unless YOU change something.

Well, nothing has changed but I did notice the disk was checked during startup... Maybe there is something wrong with my HD...? I'll do some tests... The weird thing is everything is there and Sonar does see everything and gives no error when scanning.

Maybe there is something wrong with my HD...?
This is not a problem unless you have failed to back your work up to a seperate drive. How old is the drive and how full is it? It could be the problem. As a drive fails, files can become corupted. The disk scan is trying to fix corupted files?

The drive is two years old and the scan didn't find any problems... It's really weird. Sonar itself loads perfectly fine, (and everything else that's on that drive works fine) but it's just the VST plugins that won't load... Bummer.

Did you check the Cakewalk Plug-in manager to see if they are listed and enabled?
What is the exact error message you get?

Yes, the plugin manager shows them all as enabled.
The message (sort of) is: The following VST plugin failed to load: and then you see the path to the plugin, which is the correct path and the files ARE there... That message appears for each and every pluging in the project one by one.

How many hard drives do you have installed in your computer? If you have more than your computer's power supply can handle, you can get strange errors like this.
Did you re-run the VST Scan with Re-scan Failed Plug-Ins and Re-scan Existing Plug-ins checked?
Do you have BitBridge Server Configuration set to Auto?

Two drives, ever since I have this pc (about 3 years ago).
Rescan finds no problems: it doesn't give any errors while scanning. Nothing fails and everything is there. Only when I try to open a project or try to add a plugin all plugins fail to load.
I've installed 64 bit versions of everything and for the few plugins that are still 32 bit I use Jbridge. It worked flawlessly for three years, and now it suddenly stopped working. I haven't got a clue what happened.

Have you run an antivirus or anti-malware program lately? Perhaps your computer is infected.
Have you run a registry cleaner lately? Sometimes these can cause problems.
I might suggest you need to reinstall Sonar at this point. Do you have the latest version of 8.5 installed, i.e., 8.5.3?

Do the plug ins load if you open another project or start a new project? Is it just this one project?

@Dave: PC has no virus (checked). Didn't run a registry cleaner: I don't believe in them, well, not until now. ;) I am indeed considering reinstalling things.
@Johnny: The plugins won't load at all, not in any project and not in a new one.
It's an odd situation... I think that instead of installing EVERYTHING all over, I will start with only installing one plugin and see if that one works then.

Windows 7 is pretty good at doing it's own housekeeping etc. I can't see what would make all plug ins behave like that. Do they open in other software? Mine are shared with Cubase and Wave Lab. You could try Reaper as it is free download trail and easy to use. Do you have your older versions of Sonar? , try installing one of them.
