Reflexion Filter Idea
So I had an idea for a reflexion after another thread that I think will work great for very little effort and $$$. Heres what I used: Moving Blanket 2"x2" ballisters Expanded Foam Lots of staples Panels ready to be covered and small hinges to tie them together It will sit on a knee wall by VOX area (No Booth) Heaight of coverage will be from approx 4' to 6 1/2' high. Savings compared to purchase $290 (About $10 to bulid)

These would be a hundred times more effective if they were filled with an inch of 703 instead of foam. (BTW, "a hundred times" is not hyperbole, but may be understated.)

Yeah I wouldn't expect you to get much attenuation from this other than the really high end presence (primarily from the blanket - that foam's not going to be doing anything). Fill 'em with 703 and you'll get much better mileage. Though, you have clearly finished it. How did it sound? Was it what you expected?

More important, did you take any objective measurements?

Havent done anything yet. Had a show tonight to go to. Yeh I see we finally got the good 703 into our lows store after I did the foam thing. Oh well. They are going to be more for keeping unwanted noises from hitting the mic which a fast check from where I was at with the pics seems like it is doing a great job. As far as any objective measurements, well that is way beyond me. Im kind of the guy that if it does show up in track view and/or through the speakers, Im good with that. Down the road as I learn might be a different story. Just thought for sure it would be better than a cardboard box . Not knocking the cardboard cause I have used it in the past with good results for what we did,

Gonna do the 703. Been researching the original $300 filter and they have a perforated aluminum and perforated plastic devider in it on the outsides of the air gap and foam in their center. Think the perf is to aid in evening/leveling out the problem freq's?

There is a type of resonant absorber that uses perforations in a semi-flexible panel such as the perfboard you hang tools on in the garage. It's used when you need to extend and/or tune bass traps to a low frequency but have limited space. My guess is they're doing something similar, except that the "low-frequency" they're extending down to is in the midrange. A 1-inch absorber made of anything is going to have very limited effectiveness below about 3KHz. You could achieve the same effect by doubling or tripling the thickness of the 703.

Wonderful!!! Thanks for the tips Dave, Funny I was contemplating try the perf and how to do it and that same thought of the tool peg board just hit me before checking the post. It just so happens I think I have a spare sheet of it down stairs
