Monitor level while recording
Hi, I use Sonar Home Studio 6.2.2. Sometimes I decide to re-record a specific part of a track when I have already made the settings for the final mix on all tracks. With these settings it is often impossible to record, because the instrument to be recorded sounds much too loud, or the opposite in relation to the other tracks. I don’t want to adjust the levels of the other tracks just for this recording purpose because I have to bring them back to their position one by one afterwards and in fact start over with my mix. Altering the input level is no option, because I want the additional recording to have the same level as the earlier recorded clips on the track. I have examined the monitor input feature, but that doesn’t allow me to record at level A and monitor the instrument real time at level B. Any suggestions how to solve this?

Why not set the output of the track to its own bus, then adjust the level up or down on the bus. Alternatively, record to a new track, then after recording move the new clip to the original track.

Edirol FA-66 I believe the Mix/Direct Monitor knob will allow you to adjust the listening levels of the already-recorded tracks and the input of what you're recording now. Check the manual for specifics. Glad you got it working, too.

Thanks Greg, I have always used that knob to turn down the volume of recorded tracks, not knowing that turning it to the other side reduces the monitoring level of the instrument played at the moment. I must have overlooked that reading the manual. It's like discovering the fifth gear after years of driving...

It's like discovering the fifth gear after years of driving... My friend had a Honda CB 360. I asked him if it had a 6-speed transmission. He said no, 5-speed. I said I'm pretty sure it has 6, so the next time he drove it, he found 6th. He was happy; he could go faster.
