how to set scale and key of arpeggiator? sonar 8.5

I feel like this should be an easy one, but I'm not getting very far.

Im using dim pro with an acoustic guitar sound.    I want to use the arpeggiator to make some nice basic arpeggios in C major.  Sounds easy right?

So I turn on the arpeggiator and I can't get the darned thing to follow any sort of scale.  I see under the midi controls that I can select a scale and key, but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the notes that are played.     For example, in the midi controls I set the key to C major Ionian,   but when I hold the C on my midi controller (lpk25) and use an acoustic guitar arpeggio I get what sound like some sort of diminished arpeggio.

I'm sure there is something simple I am missing.   Any ideas?

The arpeggiator is a strange beast at time, infact in some cases its more of a pattern sequencer, these acoustic guitar arpeggios being a case in point.

I had not considered the possibility that the guitar arpeggios may follow the key selected in the midi track so I dont know the answer to your question but I will try later and see if I can get anything to work. If it does I may actually have a use for the arpeggiator.

Of course there is a possibility that the chord pattern you have chosen is a diminished chord IIRC they are not all major or minor chords. did you try other patterns.

Well, I have had a play about and it looks to me like the scale settings have no effect on the arpeggiator patterns at all. I tried the first pattern in "Acoustic Guitar" AccGt 01. Regardless of the scale setting it plays the same set of notes when you hit C. (C D Eb G Bb  & high C.)

The function of the scale setting seems to be to set the snap options in PRV, with a scale selected notes enterd in PRV snap to the selected scale. So that is something new I learned.

You can bounce the Arp to a clip and then edit the notes as required in PRV but that somewhat defeats the point.

Shoot.
Whats the point of arpeggiating if it doesn't follow a key?  Thanks for your information,   glad to hear it wasn't just me.

AFAIK, the arpeggiator follows the keys you play on the keyboard. So if you want it to play in F, hold down F on your keyboard and it will play the pattern in F.
