Ah Sen Thee Lad

- is a Lancastrian form of welcome, not oft heard nowadays, but I like to keep colloquial phrases alive and kicking...

Yeah I like some of that too.

I like the Yorkshire way of saying someone won't be available until Thursday.

    "He'll be back while Thursday".

???...By 'eck, confusing to say the least but it makes you concentrate on what is being said....

I used to work for a guy from Sheffield who used 'while' a bit like that instead of 'until'.

I once asked him how many Yorkshiremen got killed by trains.

Imagine them reading the sign: "Do not use the level crossing while the red lights are flashing"

    "Git off mah land!"

A redneck form of welcome, usually demonstrated while waving a shotgun.

Around here the plumbers say 'aye, I'll be there at the back o' nine.'

Took a while to realize what that meant.

It meant they weren't coming until July.

Yes, I love that one, and since that routine it is used regularly in our house at the dinner table...

Where I grew up, there were some expressions used that I later came to realize were not commonly known in other parts of the world.

"You Gol-durn Idjit!!!!" = "Hello, Bubba"

"I'm 'onna beat you within an inch of yer life!!!" = "Would you be so good as to help me find my belt?"

"What the Sam Hill is wrong with you, boy?" = "You've got melted cheese on your eyebrows again..."

"Din't you hear that there smoke alarm?" = "It's time for dinner."

"Stop yer Hollerin'!!!  I ain't killed you yet!!!" = "I'm surprised you still have any functioning nerve endings..."

"Land o' Goshen!  That boy just ain't right!" = "I just came from a Parent-Teacher conference."
