Gapless Audio Engine ?

Hello All,

I've been working with Sonar for about a year now.

Been reading threads about users wanting a gapless audio engine.

I don't understand thier desire for this feature because I can do alot of multi tasking in sonar with Sonar playing.  Granted right now I work primarly in Midi but I'm not having any glitches while listening to my work as I adjust data.
I can move loop points while the now time is moving and no audio pops etc.

Can someone please expain why a gapless audio engine would be good or if one is even needed?

Thanks

In my case: I am not gigging with it, but I use Sonar as a Live Pedalboard for guitar, controlled by a MIDI pedalboard. Several tracks all set to the same input, with various plugin combinations to make different 'patches' for my guitar. The foot pedal buttons switch between each track to change my tone. I'd like a way to change patches with one press of a button (by input echoing them all and the pedals controlling Solos, with Exclusive Solo enabled.) Works in theory but Exclusive Solo is not functional with controllers (via right click>Remote Control) So I keep them all muted and unmute them with the pedal instead. Still means a press of the OTHER mute button though when I change, which is not ideal at all. Now, the problem comes when I want to use the mute button for other things which I wont explain. Ideally, I'd be controlling the Input Echos. However, Input Echoing is NOT gapless. So I am stuck using mutes and unable to use them for various other things that I have in mind. Long post, sorry. Couldn't think to explain my setup and issue briefly haha.

It seems to be a "how you gonna keep em down on the farm after they've seen Paree" sort of deal.  Those who haven't experienced it seem to not get it.  And to some others it's not their number one priority by a longshot.  But to many of us who have experienced it...it's the only way to fly.  And I mean fly...as in seamless workflow and total confidence in the stability of your DAW.  YMMV.

it also seems that those sonar users with more powerful hardware (i7/x64/>4G RAM) are less likley to experience gapping/zipping/motorboating/dropouts than those with lesser kit... (fwiw, i get gapless on other daws doing the same manouevres, but not in the last couple of sonar versions, 8 or 7 was the last i think)...

Did you try using the controller comand "Solo All Selected Tracks" (with the "Exclusive Solo Mode" turned on).  You would then hear just the selected track only soloed.

This may just be a controller hot key issue.  Not sure if a gapless engine would help.

Thanks, but I can't control the track selection. E.g. I switch to solo track 3, but track 2 is still selected with the mouse. The controller issue is unrelated to my gapless issue - I suppose I could've just said input echo causes gaps in playback haha but I told my whole story!

Ya I know what ya mean.

The only way I found you could select a track would be to:
    1. Use a mouse
    2. Use the arrow keys on a keyboard to make the track active and then use the [ , ] (comma key) to select the active track (a pain to do on the fly).
