Audio effects in Sonar X1d Expanded 64bit
Is there any list with audio effects that are NOT working in Sonar X1d Expanded 64bit? So far, I discovered that Amp Sim, FX Compressor/Gate, FX Dynamics Processor, FX Expander Gate, FX Limiter, FX2 Tape Sim, Parametric EQ, Reverb, Spectra FX, and FX2 Amp Sim DO NOT WORK in Sonar 64bit, but the discovery proccess is slow, because after you try each of these effects Sonar stops responding, takes a long time to close, you have to restart the computer, etc., etc. I thought that Cakewalk, in its wellknown care for its customers would mention somewhere that if you use "the more stable Sonar X1 64bit" more than half of your audio effects WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE, but so far I couldn't find any such honest statement. Therefore, please, if anyone has already the complete list with features that are DISABLED in Sonar 64bit, put it on the web, not only for me, but for all the people who are thinking, poor souls, of buying Cakewalk Sonar X1.

I can only speak to my 64-bit (see below) setup. I do not have any issues (so far) with any of the effects you mention. As for the discovery being slow.....my best guess would be your sound drivers....maybe in preferences selected the wrong driver....try ASIO? Hope this helps...I t can be frustration getting your rig dialed in. meh

The plugins that you mentioned normally work in SONAR X1d Expanded x64. You mention that SONAR "stops responding" after you try them. This suggest something wrong with your particular installation of SONAR and/or those plugins. I guess we'll have to do some to-ing and fro-ing to get to the bottom of it. They are DX plugins so doing a VST scan won't help. Perhaps you could try running the SONAR installtion again and make sure to select just those plugins when that particular part of the installation process comes along. Were there any errors during the installtion? Did something not install properly that you might be aware of. SONAR also requires the latest MS Visual C++ 2010 x64 redistributable Version 10.0.40219 to run.

In the last few days, I have used a number of the FX you list in my Sonar X1d Expanded x64 rig with no problem, so I don't think this is across the board. I think mudgel's advice is a good place to start in trying to solve your problem. If that doesn't help, don't be afraid to try Cakewalk Tech support.

You definitely have a problem that is specific to your system. I barely use Sonar 64 and was able to run all of the plugs you mentioned at the same time and brought them in while audio was playing on a 52 track project. They loaded instantly, worked as expected and no crashes on my end. -Danny

First, I want to thank everyone who answered me. I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 plus all updates. I installed the last drivers available for my system. I installed SONAR X1 Producer (release build 184), X1c (build 319), Producer Expanded (build 425), and X1d Producer Expanded update (build 535). Everything looked normal during installation. I am running the program on a computer with an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU and 4GB RAM. I assume that MS Visual C++ 2010 x64 redistributable Version 10.0.40219 mudgel mentioned is installed by SONAR. However, on my system I found just MS Visual C++ 2010 x86 redistributable Version 10.0.40219. If that's the cause of my problem, how do I fix it?

These are all from the Cakewalk Audio FX packages (1, 2, and 3). It is possible that they are not properly registered or your directory structure has changed after your upgrade. I would recommend uninstalling them using the Windows Install/Uninstall from the control panel and reinstalling them. The downloads are probably still available at the Cakewalk Store (they were a free download for me) if you don't have the files that you downloaded originally. No issues with these on my x64 system (although there are a couple of Soft-Synths that won't work for me). Glen

There are several plugs that work in 32 bit but not 64 bit. To name a few: fxchorus, fxreverb, studioverb2... However, there will not show up in 64bit as a choice. Those that do show up should work, and NOT cause hangups. I stick with 32 bit for now simply because I have not found exact sounding replacements for a handful of 32bit plugs I've tweaked into my main project template. I think some of the others are pointing you in the right direction. It does sound to me like it's something wrong in your core setup or drivers. I would also mention that you may have a few synth edit vst(s) causing you this problem. I did housekeeping of my plugs a while back when I experienced plugin problems. Glad I did. I removed several that were old and seldom if ever used. And my issue vanished. You may also want to call cw support to be sure.

Thanks you all! Freddie H was right: I had Msdia80.dll in the wrong (root) folder. And I was wrong: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) was already installed. I moved Msdia80.dll to the right folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VC. No change, I still cannot insert many audio effects. As for cw support, they were never able to solve any problem I had, and when they realized that they just stop answering me.

Does the file need to be registered afterwards? No just move it.. it should be place there in the first place. Its MS installer that make an error placeing it in ROOT drive.

Since it looks like there is no answer for my problem, I am contemplating building a system just for Sonar and its satellite programs. Any suggestion in terms of components/hardware and the ideal configuration for such a system? I will prefer to build a computer capable to run also ProTools, in case Sonar will still not perform properly. I am kind of tired waiting for a bug-free version that seems more and more, in Cakewalk's case, to remain an illusion.
