Sorry for your problems. However, nobody can tell you what you're doing wrong because we don't have any idea of how you are doing things. What software are you using, what are you exporting/bouncing, what are your export/bounce settings, how do you verify the quality difference etc. Soundcard and PC specs are also the normal info to be added in all questions, but soundcard has nothing to do with bouncing to tracks. If you are exporting/bouncing like it's adviced in the help files, everything should be fine.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

we'll need a little more info. what kind of tracks are you bouncing? softsynths? which one(s)? what are the settings you're using for the bounce?

Pay close attention to the settings on your master bus or where every your monitors are rounted from. You want to export what you are hearing correct. Use a -0.1 dbl max on that track's meter for a peak singnal. You can choose any track as the export track under File>Export>Source Catagory then highlight the correct Bus or track. This is a way to skip all the other tracks "the mix". Do this by selecting the correct track that you have routed to your monitors when you choose file export. Make sure just the track your hearing is selected for the export. This is very basic export. Cheers Wave

What sound card are you using? The motu express is just a Midi in/out box if i am not mistaken? I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the sound card might be an issue for you. Sonar needs something better than a soundblaster or inboard computer sound card...

Make sure your tracks are going to your master bus. Make sure your master bus goes to your main outs. Make sure any buses go to your master bus. For the export, select entire mix or main outs as your source and bounce to 16 bit 44..1kHz, if you want CD standard. Doing this will export exactly what you hear in Sonar.

You also need to be mindful of how you're making the comparison. How are you listening to your bounced audio? Try reimporting your bounced track back into Sonar (Same project, new track), route it directly to your Soundcard, then set it up so you can A/B between the bounced track and the raw tracks and listen for any differences. If there's no difference, you can eliminate Sonar from the equation, if there is a difference, it's in your routing/exporting somewhere.

What is the change in quality like? If you mean it's only a drop in volume, then we're not talking about quality. Note, that how loud the SONAR project comes out of your headphones or loudspeakers has got nothing to do with the actual volume of the project. A quiet project can be made sound loud by just turning the soundcard volume up. You can see the loudness of your project in the Master Bus level meters (assuming all tracks are routed to Master Bus). The true level of your exported wav is what that meter shows. If the meter shows around -3 - -1 dB, the project is reasonably loud. Commercial products are usually compressed and limited extremely loud, to something like -0,3 - 0 dB. Your soundcard has nothing to do with the quality of the export, but it would be useful to know if you're talking about audio or MIDI tracks, and what soft synths you're using, because those do play a role in getting the big picture.

You will loose audio quality always and the internal filters like EQ and so on sounds not as good as in 48kHz and up.. Use 48kHz 32bit while you working inside your DAW bouncing/Internal dowmixing tracks/Synths to AUDIO tracks. DON NOT USE POW R3 bouncing/Internal dowmixing. Its decrade the audio quality because its use noise shaping and should only be use in last stage dowmix of whole song. Use Triangular dithering in SONAR during Internal mixdown process. Now, you say you loose audio volume? Its hard to say what you do wrong because it can be numerous possibilities why doing so.

Use Triangular dithering in SONAR during Internal mixdown process. Why would you dither at all for an internal operation Freddie?

agreed - there's no need for dithering at all on an internal bounce. dithering is only needed when going from higher bit depth to lower bit depth. internal project bounces don't need to be changed.

Minor point of order: sampling rate is not pertinent to the question of bouncing.

In fact, neither's bit depth, particularly, though the issue of whether or not you are changing bit depth is a potential pitfall.

No dither needed when bouncing in SONAR if your audio wave file is 24bit and being processed in a 32bit floating point enviroment. When you bounce, your not changing the bit rate. It will still be a 24bit audio wave file in a 32bit flaoting point enviroment. Note: This is when you select 32bit as the bounce source. When your bouncing in sonar, you dont bounce to 16bit. You export to 16bit when the song is done and this is when you apply dither. CJ
