Cant perform MIDI bounce to clips

I have a MIDI track I have compiled from different takes and want to send a single MIDI track to someone to use in a different  but related project rather than the bounced audio. I am selecting the track, Ctrl clicking the clips individually to select all of them, right clicking and selecting "bounce to clips" However the clips remain stubbornly separate. I have tried the same process with just a couple of test clips in a separate track with no problem whatsoever. Any ideas as to what the problem or what I am doing wrong could be?

Hmm... not sure. I know you don't need to select the track first if you're Ctrl+clicking the clips to select them. If you're bouncing all the clips in the track, just select the entire track.

    Otherwise, I don't know what's happening there...

Thanks Scott. Yes its odd. The MIDI clips in the track in question have gaps between them, but that shouldn't make a difference should it? The single bounced project length clip would just have no data where the gaps were I would have thought.

I am back in my studio later and will try experimenting a little more

Yep, that's right. Bouncing MIDI clips just merges the clips into one and doesn't alter the data at all. You could try cloning the track or copying the clips to a new track first. I really don't know what's going on with that particular track though.

Gonna try cloning / copying clips to a new track later, will report back to this thread what happens. Thanks Scott

I experienced that once myself. I was trying to merge multiple MIDI clips into one, and SONAR just refused to do it. No warnings or errors, it just acted as if I'd not requested any action at all. I still don't know why it acted that way. But I was ultimately able to merge the clips by doing it in chunks, joining the first two, then appending the third and so on down the line until they were all merged.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Is anything locked?

I do that to myself frequently... but I think when I do the Bounce option is grayed out.

I haven't had any problem bouncing MIDI clips. But I had used the cal program to split my drum track to individual tracks and at a later date decided it wasn't a good idea. So I tried to bounce the MIDI tracks back to one track. Couldn't find a way to do it. Kept getting the message that there was "no audio selected". I had to drag the clips into one track, making sure the clips' start times were correct, and then bounce to clips.

It shouldn't make any difference, but enable layers and see if anything in there is preventing it from bouncing.

Other than that, copying to another track as suggested above is your next best bet

I'm experiencing the same problem. Does your midi clip contains any automation data? In my case, Midi Track(or Instrument track) with automation data, the Bounce to cilp function does not work. no any pop up, warning, nothing just stay intact. It's a bug obviously

Don't know if anyone's still having this problem but...

I've had this problem ever since X1. But it always seemed to come and go. Sometimes bouncing MIDI would work and sometimes it wouldn't. Then I read Kevin's post above and I noticed that the only MIDI tracks I use that ever have automation are Instrument Tracks!
    Sooooo, I... :
    1. Right clicked on my stubborn Instrument Track that wouldn't bounce
    2. Split Instrument Track leaving the automation I was using on the now separated audio track.
    3. Performed Bounce on the now separated MIDI Track and voila! It worked just like it used to!
    Thanks Kevin!

FYI - In Track View, View/Display/Display Ghosted Data (uncheck) didn't work. :-/
