Quick update
Hi folks, Just throwing up a quick up date on my neck surgery. I honestly wasn't going to bother you with it, but the forums seem a little off lately so I thought I'd post something bland, and un -hostile . Any how I have weaned myself off of all my pain meds. They really loaded me up with scripts and some re-fills. Qty 90-Oxicodone Qty 90-Percoset Qty 90-Flexeril All refillable......................seems strange the ease in which these are prescribed when there is an epidemic of opiate based prescription drug use, and addiction. The Flexeril is a skeletal muscle relaxer so I am still taking 1 am and 1 at night. Anyways, by removing the pain meds I now feel they were masking some of my pre -existing symptoms and the surgery was not as" instant" of a success as I thought earlier. Its kind of a bummer...................... However the peak of recovery from my neuro mylopathy is around 5-8 months and I'm far from that. But most evidence does point to almost immediate relief of many symptoms. Thus I think I set my expectations rather high. Anyways my taxi.................mommy is waiting to drive me into my shop so I can see whats been cooking and how my son is doing. He is not a journey level installer but he has really stepped up to help me out, I love him dearly.. I hope you all are well Jason

Keep on the right path and all will be well again Jason. Your son seems like a keeper as well as your 'taxi driver'. Good for you.

Good to hear you're on the path to recovery. It may be long and slow but at least every day is one step closer. Don't be afraid of the med's because believe it or not, if used correctly they do help. If you're not comfortable taking them that often then take them as needed. There's no reason to be uncomfortable more than necessary. If your pain acts up take one, if there's no pain today then don't take one. That's what I did with my broken leg. I'm a proud recovering addict and was worried about the pain pills. one day I decided that instead of every 4 hours I'd wait till I felt pain. The time got further apart just about daily until I noticed I wasn't taking them anymore. Seems your family has got things covered so sit back, relax and finish getting better. Mike

good to hear from you and glad you're on your way to recovery! I've always worried about pain meds masking other problems and I try not to use them as much as possible, especially the narcotics. glad to hear from you!

Keep on the right path and all will be well again Jason. Your son seems like a keeper as well as your 'taxi driver'. Bapu, I have 5 kids, although most are fully grown................ Oddly my 22 year old Josh has been the toughest for me to deal with. Yet in this moment in my life when for the first time in ages I myself have doubt, worry, real anxiety and those types of things...........he has given me the most thought ,time and effort of anyone. I have made a promise with myself ,that when I get it all back together,I am going to find some extra reward for him and his effort. Some of my family and extended family haven't had much patience with him and feel I've been soft in his after high school life.............but I only need to think back to my early adult years to understand he has slowly been forging his path it just hasn't been perfect. He has never been a trouble maker, druggy or any of that. He simply has not totally discovered his life yet As for my taxi driver. That would be my mom.................. I live a good 11 miles from even a traffic light and further from town...and my work........................I cannot drive for 2- 4 more weeks, so she volunteered to stay here for a month or 2 to help out...........I really need her help and appreciate it immensely, as my wife works full time and only had 1 week of vacation left to help me. Thanks for checkin' in

jason,i had c1-c-3 replaces with donor bone and titanium plates about 4 years ago,ive never been the same since and i never will be.they gave me that small percentage of folks who would have it the worst, unfortunetly i was that percentage.it seems the % was so small because the type of surgery i had was in its experimental stages with new ways of doing the sugery.so not many people were put into that percentage.it was devistating and still is.i was left with a desition of being paralized within a matter of years or have the surgery.i did the latter and somedays i wish i was in a wheelchair rather than go through the pain i have.i hope your recovery is better than mine.the neck is an interesting thing, not sure about you but i have other issues with my spine as well.neck surgerys have come along way from what they used to be.but for some people they are still what they were life altering. hope all works out man.

jason,i had c1-c-3 replaces with donor bone and titanium plates about 4 years ago,ive never been the same since and i never will be. Charlie.........did you have just the disc replacement or full corpectomy with fusion. And if you don't mind me asking ..........What were your symptoms and what led you to the surgery? I have a 32% compression of my central chord coming from a combination of a blown disc and a bone sppur on the back of c-3. For the past year I had been developing stiff gait, poor coordination and weak arms and hands with some electrical like jerks everywhere. Also a mild or general imbalance. Surgery wise I went with Laminaplasty............ opening the c-3 thru c-6.

I hope you improve swiftly. I need surgery around T1 and just above in the cervical spine but it scares me so I have been living with meds and pain. I can take percocet but I don't sleep well if I do. They changed me to Nucyenta ER 150 twice a day and it seems to be working very well for me. I tolerate vicoprofen pretty well and can sleep ok if I don't take one after 6 PM... but I I am off them, so it does not matter. There is a 24 hr time release called Exalgo that might work good for you if you need help but don't like the oxy. It is hydromorphone. A couple of non-narcotic drugs that help a lot with pain are Cymbalta and Lyrica .25mg. I really liked the Cymbalta for spine pain but I had side effects that were intolerable with it... most can take it though. I will be looking forward to hearing about your progress. Julien

I'm more of an Advil liquid gel guy.............but Ibuprofen cannot be taken during recovery. Now I', just taking good ole Tylenol and the Flexiril........... Thanks for checking in............
