Total Rex (compilation) at 35/=

Never use loops. Still have an unopened Cake's complimentary CD "In your face fx" loop from last year end purchase.

But at 35/= (till April 20th) this looks tempting. Would you buy it ?

It's very tempting.  loops come in handy.  They can serve as stand-ins while composing other parts of a song or can be manilpulated into something completely unrecognizable. Drums can be chopped up and their individual components used as hit. 10gigs of sound you are likely to find something useful.  I am tempted to get myself.

I actually thought I already had these as Refills, but on checking no I haven't.

Which leads me to think I must have too much stuff already if I can't remember what I do have...

    Just bought it.

There are tons of great loops and just had fun listening to each one of it.. but here is the problem, how do you usually create something from these many loops. Some description is clear, like bass and the keys, but others, you need to really know it well before you can layer or combine with others. For example, some drums and bass just lock into each other nicely, while most of the time, it's a hit and miss situation. And after sometime.. auditioning two loops that works together can become tiring.

tomixornot..  One of the things that i find separates  people who make great original  songs using loops and those that sound more like remixes is treating the loop more like an instrument than simply and element to be combined with other things.  For instance, your beginning Garageband/Acid user would simply take a bass line loop, toss it over top of a beat loop and hope for the best.  Where as the person who thinks more musically may take that same bass loop, cut it into individual notes, and rearrange them into a completely different melody , ranging from simple to glitch type parts impossible to actually play on a bass.

It blows my mind at how many songs have been created chopping up the same Amen loop.  Have you tried extracting the groove with Audiosnap to make the loops work together better.

In my tunes, I use loops alot for :
    background noise
    sweeps
    fills
    percussion
    beats
    accents

I think I may get this to add to my collection.

    dubdisciple,

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm using Audiosnap once a while and still learning it, mainly to align some tempo issues, but not with loops yet. I remember watching an Audiosnap video for tightening drums sample and I do agree this is one area to make best use of loops.

I picked up this collection. A lot of the stuff is taken from sample cds that are at least 15 years old, but still usable. Since breakbeats tend to get chopped and distorted to hell anyway, these are just as useful as when they were first published. This is certainly not a collection for someone looking to instantly loop together the latest pop hit, but rather for someone good at taking elements and using them in new ways.

a lot of it is "recycled" from their refills already , which I bought over the years.. and some of it is also 16 bit *NOT* 24 bit.. so your looking at loops easily 10+ years old (e.g. the jungle warfare ones, were put out in 2000 and before as audio).

so just be aware the laws on sampling changed after certain titles included e.g. the jungle warfare ones.. probably has the amen break, no one has ever taken legal action *BUT* other ones on there, people stopped using or masked / chopped HEAVILY to  get the hits out of.

it's good if you don't have the packs already , BUT you might need to do addtional eq work , because of how samples were done now and then.

Thanks Fog that's what I was already thinking may be the case with this.

In that light I would say if you don't have any of their other stuff then you are likely to find some useful stuff in this 'bumper' pack.

I purchased Jungle Frenzy back around 95. Still very useful since it is mostly classic breaks and the version I have...well REX wasn't even invented yet. I'm getting too lazy to chop breaks in my old age! This collection is certainly not plug and play. The hip-hop and RnB stuff is totally dated now but works for some of the stuff I occasionally have have to do at work (like lay down hip-hop and dance beds beds for people who don't actually listen to hip-hop or dance music)

I bought this. It downloaded as 6 RAR files. Can anyone recommend a good, easy to use RAR extractor?

Do any of you know if these files work well for you in Beatscape or (Toontrack's) Beatstation?

I almost bought these but want to be sure!

    EDIT:

OK, I bought these and they seem to work fine in Beatstation (standalone and 64-bit Sonar 8.5.3).

Thanks Tomi_ and all ... this is what I've been looking for!
