8.5 to X1 - minimal installation

As I have 8.5 with  full rapture. dim. pro, guitar rig 5, x3ta 2, can I do a custom install of components?. Would I be missing extra presets or something by not doing a full install. Waiting to upgrade computer soon and short of disk space.

Thank you for any replies.

John.

Hi John Great name BTW.

Which version of X1?

If you have Z3ta 2 you wont have to worry about overwriting it because X1 only has the first version. A lot of the plugins have been updated in X1 therefore it would be a good idea to let it install those. I don't know which ones are updated but it is the practice of CW to do so with new versions.  Dim Pro is also in version 1.5 with X1 Producer. So if you haven't updated you will get the latest version with the updated libraries.

Really I would just install the full install.

Hi John, I own 8.5 producer so would go for that. Think maybe existing presets would be just overwritten and new ones added. Just don't want to lose anything or add loads of unnecessary files.

This a merely a suggestion regarding Dim Pro 1.5, if you can update in 8.5 first it will save you having to make registry changes in X1Prod. The only prob is a few extra things in additional content, which I have on 4th disc(went Box Version) to feel safer! There was a lot of headaches with the Dim Pro install from X1, so you might want to do some homework. If you are comfortable with getting into registry, then forget all I've said!
I just installed the first disc from X1 over top of 8.5.3, and am all the way up to current version! Good luck!

Generally speaking X1 will not overwrite your 8.5 install. It is a separate install.

I have 8.5 on my system along with X1 Pro Expanded d, in both 32 and 64 bit versions and nothing has been overwritten. One thing that is kinda neat is X1 can migrate many of the settings you have in 8.5 over to X1.

I have dim pro 1.2 installed so will check out latest update. At the moment i have my multisamples on another disk partition to off load my C drive of data,  following Craig Andertons  registry tip as follows-

registry entry points dim pro to this directory

1. First, Go Start > Run and type Regedit in the Run field.
2. In the left pane, unfold the HKEY_Local_Machine key.
3. Unfold the Software key under HKEY_Local_Machine.
4. Unfold the Cakewalk Music Software key under ‘Software’.
5. Click on the Dimension Pro folder and several data types appear in the right pane.
6. Right-click on the Multisamples Folder and select Modify.
7. Enter the new file path for the Multisamples folder, then click on OK.
8. Close the Registry
